Summary: Disappointed
Review: James Patterson was an author recommended to me but I unfortunately bought his When the Wind Blows first. I liked the short chapters. The plot was completely predictable though, and the book probably should have ended halfway through. I was constantly trying to figure out who the "I" was that was speaking because it read like a man's point of view and not the heroine, Frannie. If it were not for the very slight touch of romance and the swear words, I would recommend this book to my 11 year old. Having read some of the other reviews, I will choose a different one of Patterson's books (certainly not The Lake House since it is a continuation of When the Wind Blows)and try to figure out how his books have become #1 bestsellers.

Summary: A Book You Can't Put Down.....Even to Eat...............
Review: This book was absolutely riveting. I've learned from reading Mr. Patterson's books that you only start reading them in the morning, on a Saturday or Sunday, and if you're smart, you don't have any pressing engagements. If you do, you'll do one of two things.............you'll call and cancel or you just won't show up. I've read the Alex Cross books and they are some of my favorites, but this book was SPECIAL. The concept of these winged children was so unique that it truly captured my heart. You actually become so involved with Max that as you move through the book you actually form an emotional attachment to her and then to the other children. It would make a wonderful movie, but the casting would be very difficult. The children really would have to be unknowns or they wouldn't be believable. Someone would always say well "she" was so different in "...........". I read about 4 to 5 books a week, most of the mystery genre, but James Patterson is my absolute favorite. Please, if the publisher reads this, we need a sequel to "Max"........and soon. Believe me...this is one novel that everyone should read. Keep it up Mr. Patterson, just write faster!

Summary: Not bad
Review: Yet another JP book that doesn't have the legendary Alex Cross and therefore the low rating.

This is definately not the fast-paced, action-packed, excellent thrillers that JP usually writes but a bizarre story of genetically engineered children that can fly and are born & grown to experiment on.

An FBI agent, Kit Harrison, is on leave and is conducting his own investigation of a number of murders that have been happening around town. He encounters a vet, Frannie, who spots a young girl on the side of the road..and she has wings and can fly! Basically, the rest of the story is trying to find out where she has come from and who/what are doing these sorts of experiments. I had guessed the ending well into the book, so it really wasn't a surprise for me, but overall, the plot was not that great, esp considering JP introduced me to Gary Soneji and Det Alex Cross!

Overall, I was disappointed with this book from Patterson, although he is an excellent writer, I really do believe that he should stick to real thrillers with Alex Cross and let the suspense/horror to Stephen King or Dean Koontz.

If you are a fan of JP, then you will be disappointed but this is a fast-read (short chapters) and it will keep you entertained for a least a couple of hours, otherwise re-read 'Kiss the Girls'.
