Rating: Summary: Bung a shrimp on the barbie Review: I have never not finished a book, but I was tempted to give this one away. Every second paragraph had a Australian name drop. Every page, there was a deviation that included, shopping item (explained for the non-Australian), street directions. I felt that the author was given a challange to include every Australian invention, every Australian sporting event, all the Australian owned food and cleaning products and any other invention, in her book. There was definately a cringe factor in this book. I would not recommend this to any one. It is not even worthy as a book to read on the train. I was given it as a present because I was a cat lover. I would not have bought this.
Rating: Summary: A Unique Heroine and Lots of Action with Cats! Review: I was given this book by a friend, and let me tell you, I couldn't put it down. The heroine, Lenny Aaron, is an ex-cop who turned to hunting down missing cats instead, after a botched investigation left her with physcial and emotional scars. But she finds herself back in the thick of things when the daughter of a wealthy media mogul hires her to investigate some family business. I loved the book for many things... the Aussie connection (I'm a Kiwi, so it is nice to read a book from our side of the world!), the fact that Lenny is a Japanophile (I am based in Japan), and of course... cats!! But the main attraction is Lenny herself--she is so REAL. Not a pretty-girl heroine, far from it. She has hang-ups and phobias galore, but that makes her all the more appealing. This is a great book. The author wrote it while living in Japan, hence the Japanese conncetion. But even if you know little about Australia or Japan, you will love the story. Great characters, fast paced, good eye for detail. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: A Really Neat Story Review: Lenny Aaron decided to leave the Melbourne police after a vicious criminal left her scarred. However she needed work so she opened up a cat tracker business. That seemed safe to her, chasing down missing felines, plus it would leave her lots of time to recover with her Zen counselor and to enjoy her bonsai trees. But then the daughter of a media mogul who has lost her cat, also has had threatening letters. So reluctantly Lenny investigates and in no time she's up to her neck in murder.Lenny is a different kind of heroine, one I think you'll love meeting in this really neat story.
