Rating: Summary: A thrill ride like few others Review: Any novel that opens with a head floating in the waters of Venice is going to grab a reader's attention. Throw in Noise Days, giant flies, nude Olympics and a Homeland Security Dept. that resembles the SS, and you have a winner. While there are some loose ends and uneven spots, overall this is a thrill ride like few others - and cynics are going to love it.
The multi-faceted plot focuses on a series of mysterious bank robberies in which the criminals disappear without a trace. There are also bombings taking place around New York City that aren't easily explained. Are the two tied together, or are these acts separate crimes that are equally baffling? Our intrepid police heroes aim to find out ... but only after they've had their routine, job-mandated psych consultations.
Walter von Wegen has written a wonderfully funny, thoroughly complex, and entirely engaging science-fiction novel that should be optioned for a film. It takes place in 2044, but readers will recognize aspects of modern life in the situations and characters, making Is Nothing Sacred? one of the most biting satires of the year. Ignore it at your own peril, because Wegen's vision of the future may not be all that far off. -- Doug Brunell for the FEARLESS REVIEWS
