Rating: Summary: The Sights, Sounds, and Smells of NYC Review: I found this book by accident, sticking out of the shelf in a bookstore, and since it's set in New York, I bought it. I didn't realize I was going to be transported back in time! The details really put you there. The Lower East Side at the turn of the century was a horrible place, but the love story that prevails makes this book magic. The hero and heroine overcome poverty, prejudice, corruption, and all the evils immigrants had to face. I even read some books in the extensive bibliography. Diana Rubino really did her research. I give it 2 thumbs up!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: I LOVE YOU BECAUSE is an intriguingly unique book that offers a fresh voice for romance readers.Vita Caputo knows where her roots are, but being a good Italian girl isn't doing much to get her where she wants to be. Then one day she meet a nice Irish cop, Tom McGlory. Before either can stop the feelings, a chain of events threats to ruin it all. Tom's cousin is murdered and all evidence leads to Vita's father and brother. But in New York just before the turn of the century, things aren't always what they appear to be. Vita and Tom was find a way to be together, save her family, and bring to cultures that hate each other together under one roof. Vita is the lead character in a cast of eccentrics, politicians, and real people fighting real challenges. Tom is no typical leatherhead. He is the best kind of hero, sensitive, sexy, and loyal. Along with their families, these two offer a dazzling look into a muted world in a troubled time. Excellent portrayals bring them to life on the pages. This is my first book by Diana Rubino, but it won't be my last. Her style is natural. One word flows into the next, her transitions so smooth you wouldn't know you weren't living it. Her unique voice and exquisite attention to detail make I LOVE YOU BECAUSE a stunning book. I LOVE YOU BECAUSE by Diana Rubino is all that and then some. Everything about this book is what writing should be--original and wonderfully executed. Bravo!
