Rating: Summary: Patriotism is alive and well Review: A friend gave me this book about a year ago but I never got around to reading it because it looked like one of those old-fashioned stories about good versus evil with good triumphant, etc etc etc. I picked up the book after Christmas and read it, and it offered comfort and hope during a dark winter. Evil came our way on September 11th and no one seemed to know what to do about it except help each other survive and overcome those who hate us with such irrational fury. Mr. Rustad's novel is about overcoming evil, and I'd give it ten stars if I could.

Rating: Summary: Trial by fire Review: An absorbing tale of coming of age, bravery and love, set during the climactic days of late WWII. Naive young pilot Wilson Lindberg's personal journey from unsophisticated patriot to haunted veteran dominates a strong plot. I found the irony of the fateful connection between Lindberg and Luftwaffe flier Dietrich particularly striking. The intrigue and betrayal surrounding the elder Rostov and his son Yuri set an emotional time bomb ticking through the novel that heightened the suspense even further. If the romantic relationships had been developed with more care The Triumph and the Glory would have been stronger. Still, a solid four star book in my opinion.
Rating: Summary: A book for troubled times Review: Courage. That's what this novel is about. From the first page, when an arrogant Adolf Hitler mocked Americans as foolish cowboys who knew nothing of real war, to the end at Arlington, it reminded me of more recent idiots who have found out what it means to ridicule America. INSPIRING. That's what this novel is, I loved it!
Rating: Summary: The Triumph and the Glory Review: I am nearing the end of reading this book. I have found two mistakes and two very unlikely occurances that are causing me the author's credibility. First, one of the main characters, a B-29 pilot looks up to see the Southern Cross. The problem I have is that he's supposed to be on Tinian which is north of the equator. Second, later in the book, this pilot is on an airliner on his way to Berlin. The narration and dialog indicates that he is wearing Silver Oak Leaves, but also refers to him as a major. Majors wear Gold Oak Leaves. Silver is for Lt. Colonels. The latest inconsistancy is that a former marine becomes the father of twins in 1948 and he says that he will forty years old in 1968 when his twins become his "present" age. That would mean that he was seventeen in 1945 when he was in the invasion of Iwo Jima. That may be possible, but I don't think it's likely that a person turning 17 in 1945 would have been trained in time to assault Iwo in February. He also claims that his wife would be thirt-nine in 1968 which would have made her sixteen when she was supposedly a lieutenant in the medical corps in 1945 on Okinawa. I do not believe that for a minute. I bought this book because I like WWII novels, but I'm not sure that I'll want to read any more of this author's books. Have any other readers expressed a disappoinment with Mr. Rustad ? Thank You, Lee Rash
Rating: Summary: The Triumph and the Glory Review: I don't really want to review the book, b ut I think I found a mistake. Rustad writes about Wilson Lindburg looking up at the Southern Cross after returning to Tinian from a bombing run over Osaka. I don't believe that the Southern Cross can be seen from Tinian because the Marianas are north of the equator. Can you verify ? thanks, Lee Rash
Rating: Summary: Good read on a rainy day Review: I wouldn't call this a masterpiece like some other reviewers, but still this is an excellent book on WWII. Memorable scenes like the Russian invasion of Berlin and the sadness at the end. Buy it, the hours will pass by quickly.
Rating: Summary: The Cliches and the Glory Review: the first time that i visited this books site and saw its reviews i was sure that i would love it. in the end it was so much more than i had thought it would be. the author does a great job showing how the minds of Hitler, Stalin, Beria, FDR, and others worked. it is unbelieveable for me to see people thinking that this book is a waste of time, the historic parts are not all true, i will give you that, the AK that the russians soldiers had is a mistake it should be the PPsh. but the motives behind the russian commisars orders to take a young boy and put him into a penal battalion are all true with the history of the USSR in WWII, and the Red Army soldiers motivations are true as well. contrary to belief i am no friend to the author, i am writting this because this book is something that made me think 5 times before i started to understand what it had represented. the holocaust scene with the German fighter pilot was superb and the emotions of the american GI's understandable. the author goes into the minds of soldiers, nurses, captains, and the top men themselves, sure some of the love stuff isn't the best but moving nonetheless. this book is something i compared with Exodus and i loved it even more, i am recommending it to almost everyone i know and i wish for them to see through the eyes of the soldiers and to see what they endured, the russian, german, and american. i will read it again and again, and i will recommend it again and again. most of what you see of the reviews are just opinions and that is all, trust who you want and listen to yourself, don't buy it because i say its a great book, and don't buy it because someone else says its not, just trust your instincts.
Rating: Summary: Ex-ccccellent ! Review: The Triumph & Glory grabbed me from the first page and kept me hooked, it is terrific! why isn't the next one out yet ? ? ? I'm waiting . . . .
Rating: Summary: Ex-ccccellent ! Review: This novel has a finish that will really make you think about what is important in life. I loved the people in the story, especially Wilson, the hero pilot who just did his job and didn't expect to live through the war but knew the world wasn't going to stop turning just because he died. All he cared about was not letting down his friends and doing what was right. It cost him dearly, but respect isn't something you get just for showing up, you have to earn it, and Wilson certainly did.
