Summary: Great contemporary mystery novel
Review: This is the first published book by Ohio writer Kathy Fraze, and it is part of a series. A 30-something female detective suddenly finds herself competing with others to solve the unexpected murder of her boss, the police chief in a small town.

The characters are well developed and the action is fast paced. I found myself quickly absorbed in the story and speeding to the end of the book to find out what happened. The scenes are drawn well and the author lets out just enough detail about her characters to keep you wanting a little more information about them throughout the story. The story has several skillful twists and turns and an ending that surprised me.

This book should have wide appeal to those interested in a good story, a female protagonist and/or a well-written mystery novel.
