Rating: Summary: Byers Produces Laudible Self-Published Mystery Review: The Naked Jaybird surprised me as a well thought out book. Stephen Byers is a man of exceptional taste who refuses to denigrate himself by groveling to the masses who clamor for sex and ultra-violence in their reading material. He has produced in The Naked Jaybird a story of a simple man of good character who wishes to do the right thing when he opens his Private Investigator doors. Unfortunately for our hero, he gets caught up in a web of Chinese-Canadian politics that threaten his very life. The Naked Jaybird sets it pace delibarately in the beginning allowing you time to know its hero. Byers allows no loose ends to be left untied and does not trick you by leaving you to finish the story. One minor flaw of the book, in my opinion, is the title. Some might buy this book hoping to find salacious tales of naughty deeds. Instead, the book offers a realistic depiction of Canadian-Chinese political underdealings. I know Mr. Byers personally, and I am certain that his second offering, Bent Coin, will only be better than his first attempt. That being said, I still do not believe you can go wrong by purchasing this book. Stephen Byers is a writer who is up and coming and will not stop writing wonderful tales as long as God gives him life.
