Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Average thriller, decent storyline, abrupt ending
Review: "The Omega Game" is the second published novel by Steven Krane. The story involves a group of twenty people who wake one morning in a strange locale. None of them can recall how they got there, nor can they remember any recent events. They are all given identical packages which state a series of rules for the "Game".

The players start to change the rules of the game when members of the group start to disappear. Eventually, the game becomes one of survival and the individuals have to decide whom to trust. A few of them end up being murdered and the rules of the game change on a more frequent basis.

Overall, the storyline is average and the suspense is average. The book is a quick read and the storyline does progress at a good pace. However, when those behind the game and their motives are revealed, the story starts to degrade. The ending seems rushed and not too much of a surprise. There are several subplots which are left hanging involving some of the secondary characters and one primary character which also detracts from the story. Had the ending been presented better and the other characters' outcomes been explained, the book would have been a better read.

Summary: You'll read it in one sitting
Review: I know I did- I didn't have a choice, I couldn't get to sleep until I found out what happened! This book is a non-stop thrill ride. I'll admit that the characterizations may be a bit vague, and that I sometimes had difficulty keeping track of all the various characters, but the action was immediate and compelling, and swept me along from start to finish.

Frankly, this book is what I consider to be "mental junk food," but please don't take this as criticism! Some of my favorite books and movies fall into this category. In books like these, what's more important to me than deep philosophical ruminations is an interesting plot, and a well-constructed, involving story.

The Omega Game delivers both of these, and is a very enjoyable, suspenseful read.

Summary: Great Book - Quick Read
Review: I picked up this book on a lark and loved it the entire way through. Yes, there are a lot of characters to keep track of but Steven Krane made it easy to keep up. This book flew by as I kept wanting to turn the page.

Now that I'm finished, I need to go talk to my wife. I'm not sure if she remembers who I am.

Summary: exciting action adventure drama
Review: Imagine waking up in a strange but luxurious room on a tropical island with a beautiful ocean view, but not knowing how or why you are there. Twenty people varying in age, social class, race, and gender, share no memory of how they arrived on the island, where they are, or when they will leave. No one seems to know anyone else. Each one has a contract for them that is signed stating they agree to play the "game" or forfeit.

After a heated debate, one of the group members walks away insisting he is not a player and will find an escape from this trap. The next time the other participants see this person he is dead with the nineteen others all having a solid alibi. Everyone agrees that those individuals who mysteriously transported each of them here killed the dissident. As one after another of them die, the mood of the survivors turn from fear to ugliness as mob rule takes control of them.

THE OMEGA GAME is an exciting action adventure drama that takes the Douglas movie, The Game and places it inside the plot of Lord of the Flies. Readers will finish this novel in one sitting because they need to know what is the game, who is behind it, and why is it happening. Though no Red Badge of Courage, this novel is a fun reading experience that will send fans of Bolan seeking out other works by author Steven Krane.

Summary: Absorbing Thriller!
Review: The Omega Game is a suspenseful thriller, which will capture you from page one, and will not let you go, until you finish this book! I found this book absorbing and had no trouble keeping all of the characters straight. The book moved along, almost like a chess game!

The book starts out with 20 people waking up in a hotel on a lush tropical island without their memory intact of the previous 2-3 months. There aren't any phones or computers or any electronic devices in the hotel. No one knows how he or she got there or how he or she will leave. They are all given an envelope with 5 rules 1) ____ is a player in the game, 2) The players must participate in the Game, 3) The players may agree to change the rules, 4) The players must obey the rules or forfeit, and 5) The winner of the Game is the last player who has not forfeited. The reader soon finds out that to forfeit means to die. But who are the killers? One of them, or someone unknown? Who will be next to die and who will win "the Game"? The reader soon finds out that the players are being watched when new envelopes with the new rules mysteriously appear when the players agree to change the rules. The reader follows the participants in the Game and how they must cope to survive. Who can be trusted?

Great thriller! This book was incredibly hard to put down and the ending will absolutely shock you!!!

Summary: Reads As If Written By A 12-Year Old
Review: This is one of the worst books I've ever read. Very difficult for the reader to keep track of the twenty-odd characters in "The Game." The characterizations are poor and no reason is given for the reader to care about these people. The plot is so tenuous and obscure that it is an effort to maintain interest. By the time you find out what has been happening and why - you just don't give a d---. This writer knows very little about writing - at least in this genre - and I will not read anything else he writes. Save your time and money. If I could have rated it lower than one star, I would have.
