Rating: 5 stars
Summary: spellbinding
Review: I have just finished reading two of the new Bernard J. Taylor novels, DEATH OF AN AMERICAN IDOL and SECRET OF THE CAVES. Both are terrific books with a lot of twists and surprises (though not the kind of surprises that just come out of nowhere and leave you feeling cheated). SECRET OF THE CAVES is the closest Taylor has come yet to a Stephen King type novel (but only a suggestion of the suopernatural) and it is one of those novels you just can't put down. IDOL takes a little longer to get into, but the build-up is necessary for the spellbinding second half. Taylor's books are much more thought provoking than most mainstream writers (someone described him as "James Patterson for thinking people") but that makes them much more satisfying for me. The psychology of the characters is always well thought out, and you don't get the ridiculous plot devices you sometimes get with someone like James Patterson.
