Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great First Novel!
Review: For a first time author, to me the writer does three things very well. He creates believable and sympathetic - though some very seedy - characters, a well paced plot and great dialogue. As an avid reader of mystery and crime suspense novels, I can say most are lacking in at least one of these three important elements. There is a great sense of place throughout this book - the rivers, the Adirondack Mountains, and the town described in a way that made me feel as if I was actually there. Some might find the subject matter disturbing, but when you take time to think its really what we see in the paper or on the news everyday. Don't know for sure but this may be where he got the idea for the title. If you like PD James, Ruth Rendell, Ian Rankin, Colin Dexter or are just a fan of the good old brooding English crime novel, this is one to read. A book I found hard to put down with an ending I'm finding it hard to forget. With James and Rendell getting old, hopefully the writer has another like this coming out soon.
