Summary: Where is My Family?
Review: "Bitter Roots".....I found myself there! The strong characters portrayed in the book, left me emotionally drained as the author skillfully left me wanting for more as he teased my imagination and invited me to secretly relive my own untold story and to wonder what secrets and broken branches of my family tree that may lay hidden under the leaves of time. Recommended reading for anyone who may have ever concealed a Secret.

Summary: Voodoo curse lasts generations
Review: Back in the time of slavery in America, field slaves placed a voodoo curse on a family of house slaves because the house slave women kept becoming pregnant with white children. The curse was that the white rapists/seducers would die. This curse mutated through generations to the point that even black husbands of black women died, and the black women themselves sometimes died early deaths. The Lafayette family suffered from this curse all the way into present times.

The central characters are Elizabeth Big Momma Lafayette, her daughter Sadie, her granddaughter Jeanette, and the men in their lives, Sadie's white and black lovers, and Jeanette's black lover. The men are all driven sexually wild by a magic perfume. The women are all sexually precocious beyond their years, from an early age.

Who will die and who will be saved? That is basically what the plot is about. Much of the story centers around the interesting personalities of the main characters, particularly Sadie and Jeanette.

This is a memorable and interesting book. The last 150 pages speed by.

The only faults of the book are first, that we must accept voodoo as real, whether we like it or not, and second, that there are quite a few problems with the editing. Commas are misused and compound words are separated. An English teacher or a perfectionist would find something to correct on many of the pages.

I wish the author would contact me to edit his next book or to re-edit this one. He's such a good writer. Why have any errors in the book? You might see the word passed instead of past, or over looked instead of overlooked, and inappropriate use of commas throughout. It doesn't interfere with your enjoyment of the book, but why not fix it?

Summary: Where is My Family?
Review: Bitter Roots by Reginald L Wyatt is a book that must be read. The author has a unique way of taking you through the different, and startling episodes of the cursed women of the Lafayette family. With every turn of the page, you will enter a realm of love, sex and voodoo; that will leave your blood running hot and cold. When you think that you have the full understanding of the story, and it`s characters. The author takes a turn in mid air that will make every nerve in your body twich. Reginald L Wyatt`s understanding of the life of ex-slaves in the deep south adds realism to this colorful and emotional story of the struggles attached to this unfortunate family of beautiful women. You must not miss reading this book. I give it a thumbs up. Howard Wyatt
