Rating: Summary: A Perfectly Written Story Review: First off, let me say my favorite story of all time is the Godfather, both 1 and 2. This story takes you through a journey I simply do not know how to explain. I found myself laughing through the beginning stages, but as I kept reading, I slowly realized that the story was going in a serious direction. Well, I stopped laughing! It became so intense that the only novel I could even compare it too is the Godfather! READ THIS BOOK! It will make you feel, and feel, and feel. What you will feel I cannot explain, but trust me, you will be satisfied with every second you are a part of.. Ariya Scolamiero's "THE PALIO!"
Rating: Summary: Authenticity ... Review: Let me start by saying I left Italy as a teenager almost 30 years ago, and my family is from Siena (the most beautiful city in Italy!) where the title of this novel comes from. I have not been back for almost 20 years. I heard about this book from a relative who still lives in Siena, and I bought a copy immediately. The beautiful writing and almost painted descriptions took me to the place I knew a child, and I loved that feeling! Because of this book I have decided to take my children to Siena for Christmas this year and next August we will return for the race. The Palio, as was once described by Poet Mario Luzi, is a metaphor for both "the sublimation and damnation of fate." He didn't know it at the time, but he very well could have been writing about this book. This wonderful book. I strongly reccomend it.
Rating: Summary: A fun read that captures the essence of youth Review: The Palio is a fun book for a couple reasons. First off, the story keeps you turning the pages. Second, the author really captures the conflict of wanting to enjoy life and yet feeling that you should somehow be growing up faster. Finally, the back drop of Italy makes you want to get in a plane.
