Moseley's humorous and engaging prose is vividly brought to life with the return of Honey Huckleberry, book rep turned unlikely sleuth, and a wonderfully flawed cast of supporting characters who pool their strengths to reveal "whodunit" in the murder of the world's second best-selling author.

With its straight-forward plot line and its quirky, well-wrought characters, "Grinning in His Mashed Potatoes" brings to life a gentle and charming mystery whose only apparent flaw is that it leaves the reader hungering for a second helping of mashed potatoes.

Review: Honey Huckleberry is back in another cozy mystery. Book rep. and want-to-be sleuth; Honey has a "feeling" that the famous author sitting next to her at a fund-raiser didn't just die. Could one of his four ex-wives have killed him? What about his last words that he uttered before his face hit the plate? With the help of her friend Janie and Steven (from The Fourth Steven), Honey is determined to find the killer. The characters and the atmosphere make this a fun mystery. It's not quite as dark as The Fourth Steven. Honey is now more comfortable with her life-style and new money. I am looking forward to reading the next in the series.

Summary: Huckleberry's seond appearance is pure honey
Review: Honey Huckleberry of Fort Worth works as a book representative for a respectable number of publishers. Her work keeps her on the road. Up until a year ago, Honey was a naive person. However, she becomes involved with a murder investigation (see THE FOURTH STEVEN) that matured her rapidly. Because of the subsequent publicity, the Friends of the Arlington Public Library invite her to their annual luncheon. She sits next to a famous author, Twyman Towerie.

Honey and Twyman were talking when he took his first bite of lemon pie and keeled down into his mashed potatoes. The police rule his death as natural causes, but Honey thinks otherwise. Her friends encourage Honey to investigate. She quickly learns that each of his ex-wives had reasons to see the author dead, but which one would cause it to happen is more difficult to prove.

Margaret Mosley, an Edgar Award nominee for her last book, has another winner on her hands with GRINNING IN HIS MASHED POTATOES. Honey's second appearance is a serio-comic mystery that will endear the heroine to the audience. The support cast is fantastic, especially Bailey the dog. The one-sitting tale also provides hints on the probable direction the series will take, which hopefully will occur soon.

Review: Honey Huckleberry, in addition to having one of the most delightful names in cozy mystery land, is someone you'll want to spend time with. She's engaging and endearing as she goes about the business of solving the murder of the second-best-selling author in the world, Twyman Towerie. His four ex-wives are likely suspects. It's all a merry chase with loveable characters bumbling along. My only disappointment was in the climax, which seemed more like the end of a western, than of a cozy. Even with that quibble, this is a fine novel by Margaret Moseley, and I look forward to more exploits of Honey Huckleberry.

I got halfway through it and couldn't take it any more. Jaw-droppingly bad dialogue, and something about the whole tone of the book put me off very much indeed. Awful. Just unreadable.

Review: I love mysteries that start off with a murder! This was exciting and interesting from page one. Honey and Janie are such a delightful team. Makes me think of a Texas version of Murder on the Orient Express! Nice touches of humor make this thriller a must read. I hope this team continues in many series to come.

Review: Light as a Spring breeze but with a slam-bang ending, Margaret Moseley's latest page turner marks the true beginning of the Huckleberry dynasty.

The Fourth Steven introduced a naive book-agent and turned her into an unwilling amature detective. Now, in Grinning in his Mashed Potatoes, Honey Huckleberry begins to mature, with the help of her pal Janie, and by the end of the book, the pair have us hoping for more of the same. No barrage of red herrings ala traditional mystery here. Just good fun reading, an easy to follow plotline, a great cast and an ending you won't soon forget. Keep it coming!

This outing finds Miss Honey dining with famous author Twyman Towerie. Unfortunately for him, but not us, Twyman devours his meringued lemon pied dessert before his main meal. Satisfied he grins and proceeds to collapse face first into his mashed potatoes. True to nature, our book rep and amateur sleuth (again delightfully accompanied by her friend and sidekick Janie,) knows not all is what it seems. The escapade begins.

In addition to the return of Janie, childhood chum Steven Hyatt makes another appearance as well as accountant Steven Bondesky, and detective Silas Sampson. We don't see lover Harry Armstead this round but instead we're treated to his furry companion, Bailey.

"Grinning..." is a delightfully light and winsome mystery, easy to devour in page turning day.

Here's to knowing why I love potatoes,
