Rating: Summary: Do People Pay for Product Placement in Books Too? Review: I am not a professional writer so I will just say what I think about this book. I read approximately 4 to 6 mysteries a week. This isn't the worst one I've read but pretty close. The reason I can't say it is the worst is that I actually wanted to know what happened to the characters and so didn't just toss it away and forget about it; so I guess you could say there is some potential there. I have never read a book with so many product names; it was like going to a cheesy movie that is selling product along with the story. At first I thought there was some new law that says you MUST put the trademark in writing now, but I just finished another book that mentions common trademark products, much more casually, and they didn't make such a jarring issue out of trademarks. I found that this disturbed the flow of the story and sometimes was so silly as to make me laugh...The author obviously spent a great deal of time researching many topics for this book; he appears to know what he is talking about, the problem is he doesn't make it very interesting to read about. Way too many factoids and not enough style. I can see where the author was going with this hardboiled style, but he needs to practice a little more. This book is kind of a Jim Thompson meets Raymond Chandler meets Steven Spielberg styled novel. Needs work! I have a daughter who has written and illustrated two beautiful children's books we can't get published or even to an agent, but I now see the solution--we just need to have a relative publish it for us. Funny thing is, we do have a relative who is a publisher, but doesn't have a distribution network.I am really amazed that this book is distributed nationally. How do they do that? This book looks nice, print is very easy to read, but...Very disappointing.
