Rating: Summary: THE ITALIAN VOICE Review: VOICE OF THE VIOLIN, by Andrea Camilleri The Italian Voice The mystery manages to maintain the Italian flavor though the characters who are definitely three-dimensional and you feel that you know them by the time you have finished the story. It was translated to very good English by a excellent translator and poet who managed to somehow leave the feeling and thoughts of the Italian characters, and leave them whole through out this typical Italian love-for-gain murder of a beautiful girl. For people who love to solve a murder themselves this is the ideal book. The main character and what a character, Inspector Montalbano who in addition to instructing his driver and his detectives lets you in on some of his thoughts while having a very good dinner, meeting a nice female, Anna, a friend of the girl who was killed, or trying to solve a murder. Besides he takes a few shortcuts in police work that would not go in some societies-here you laugh with him at some of his methods. Don't forget the NOTES at the end of the books. A little history, favorite Italian saying as used in the book, value of lire as used in the story, and some very good food recipes. Roger L. Lee
