Rating: Summary: An open can of whupass Review: I read both this book and the previous Tyler Vance novel. I thoroughly enjoyed them both. If you like Robert B. Parker or Robert Crais you will enjoy this. I enjoyed the paperback so much that I broke a long standing rule and bought this book in hard back. I can't wait for his next book and I sincerely hope there will be a next book. This is the sort of book you want to read fast to find out what will happen next yet at the same time you want to take your time and enjoy the ride. To the Kirkus reviewer -- what's wrong with down home family values
Rating: Summary: the difference between a book and a piece of wood Review: I read the first of Clay Harvey's Tyler Vance novels, A Flash of Red, in one evening. Ditto the second book in the series. Harvey displays a fine touch for characterization as he makes the Vance family, Tyler, son Cullen, father Odie, best friend Mike, all extremely sympathetic and likeable. Humor and warmheartedness are well mixed with the violence, at which Harvey excels. And in female assassin Harmony Cahill, I believe Harvey has created one of the most fascinating ficitional characters I've read in a long, long, time.
Rating: Summary: the difference between a book and a piece of wood Review: My God, I didn't know writing could be so...bad.Almost painful in its mediocrity, this book's protagonist actually had me cheering for the Serbs in the hope that a well-aimed bullet would rid the world of further adventures "written" by Harvey (who was a lot more convincing when he was a huge invisible rabbit).
Rating: Summary: Quick Reading; Fast Action; Good Humor Review: This book is a sequel to "A Flash of Red". I did not read the first book and I feel I missed a little something (which makes me want to purchase the first). The characters come to life in this book. The dialoge is written, such that I can understand who these characters are and relate them to people I know. It is this dialoge that makes for the quick reading. During the action scenes you will be hard pressed to put the book down. Harvey does not over detail the action that takes place, thus action is fast and enticing. His two main characters display a smart alec personality that is reminicent of people I know. This leads to a humorous book that reads quick.
Rating: Summary: Great follow up to "A Flash of Red" Review: This book was a good book. It fell a little short of "A Flash of Red", but it was still an enjoyable book. Harvey is a great writer who makes his characters come alive with humer and wit. I will definitely check out his next book.
Rating: Summary: Smart Aleck, ex-Army SF, writer deals with Bad Boy Bosnians Review: Tyler Vance returns in this Clay Harvey novel that I was eagerly awaiting. While not quite as good as his original offering, I can't complain. Mr. Harvey, while obviously knowledgable about the martial arts and firearms, writes this novel in a down home, smart-ass manner that actually made me laugh out loud for the first time while reading, since the great Lewis Grizzard died. Vance is once again an admirable protagonist who is placed in a quick paced, yet developed, and original storyline that allows each of the characters to be portrayed with distinct personalities. Where else will you meet a smart aleck, who deals with his problems with the help of a Antogonistic mother in law and an equally smart assed Father and best friend. All the while dealing with his new girlfriend and her gay ex-husband in a friendly manner. True there sounds like a lot seems to be going on, but Mr. Harvey pulls it off perfectly. Four Stars and I eagerly await Mr. Harveys next foray into the book world, hopefully with the same cast of characters.
