Review: I bought this book initially because I grew up in Cape May. Am I glad I did. Not only is Ms. Kelly true to the Locale,I was pleasently suprised at the great mystery novel I landed on as well. Meg Daniels has become one of my favoite characters. Very sharp, witty, Combined smarty pants, with humor and morality, I look forward to reading the rest of Ms. Kellys offerings.A book chock full of great characters with excellent dialogue. This Travis McGee and Matthew Scudder fan has discovered another favorite. Read this book, You won't regret it.

Review: I enjoyed Kelly's continuation of the Meg Daniels series in "Cape Mayhem." I liked the way Kelly creates interesting situations for Meg that create a great story and fun read. I hope Kelly keeps the series going. Other books from Kelly with other story lines would also be great.

Review: I highly recommend "Cape Mayhem" for any mystery reader whether they have ever been to Cape May or not. I particularly loved this book because it's about one of my favorite places, Cape May, NJ. and because of the character Meg Daniels, who first appeared in "Killing Time in Ocean City." Meg is an amateur sleuth who is witty, fun and manages to get herself into and out of all kinds of predicaments. Meg and an odd assortment of characters spend a winter week-end in a bed and breakfast only to find themselves involved in a murder. Meg sets out to solve the case along with a new romantic interest. This mystery includes suspense, humor, romance and surprises. What more could one want for some summer beach reading?

Review: Jane Kelly sets her second Meg Daniels mystery in Cape May, New Jersey, where Meg immediately embarks on her sleuthing adventure after winning a romantic weekend at a bed and breakfast located in her old neighborhood, so to speak. Meg is alone for her weekend because her most current flame, Andy Beck, has gotten a severe case of commitment jitters and has departed for what Meg figures is forever and out. Meg immediately notices that something is amiss with her neighbors, the Gimbels. Although Mr. Gimbel checked in with his ailing wife, the bundled up woman's slim ankles told Meg a different story, as did the sounds she heard emanating from the couple's room. Meg manages to lock herself out in the frigid night air when she goes out to get some fresh air. Seeing no one around to rescue her, she makes a precarious climb down to safety, but not before witnessing some strange sights involving the Gimbel's which hint at a murder: "In the moonlight, I saw two figures. The couple looked not at all like the acrobatic team that kept me awake with their amorous adventures--but more like a Victorian mirage. A man held a woman in his arms like a baby. He kissed her gently, almost furtively. The blanket wrapped around her blew gracefully in the wind. The woman's bare feet dangled in the cold night air. Nice image. I'm sure I would have found the couple's embrace more touching if I weren't being strangled by my clothes at the time." Meg Daniels is a likable character with a gift for curiosity and an almost comic aggressiveness, which lands her in many sticky situations. Her supporting characters range from the tongue-in-cheek male couple who run the bread and breakfast, George Hilburn and Claude Middleton, to their friend, Hank, a local cop who could double for Robert Redford and exhibits more than a casual interest in Meg. The cast of characters who occupy the bed and breakfast are not all they seem, and Kelly uses fashion sense, or lack thereof, to create a motif to completely mislead the reader and create an inordinate sense of chaos. Cape Mayhem is an exceedingly entertaining read that is perfect for the beach, a rainy day, or lunch hours at work.

Summary: Another Great Beach Read - Even in January
Review: Jane Kelly's given us another book with witty dialog and an engaging plot containing enough twists and turns to make a reader dizzy. Cape Mayhem encourages memories for everyone who spent time at the Jersey Shore - especially if you've done so in the Winter. I enjoyed seeing Meg and Andy reunited to solve another murder mystery or is it a just plain mystery. Whatever.
