Summary: WHAT IS WRONG WITH U PEOPLE 2, 3 1/2 STARS
Review: I don't know what some of the people who reviewed this book read? 1 or 2-stars?

Granted, it wasn't DK's BEST book, but it was still an enjoyable read about REINCARNATION? Who expects a horror novel (okay maybe it's psychological horror)to be realistic? U read to get away for a while and forget the "REAL WORLD."

This was a very good DK book that I gobbled up. It is quite good, but I'll agree not his best. However, it is a well told story and has sympathetic characters!!

One of his earlier works!! A MUST-READ for "Koontz-ite's."

Summary: woman behind the mask
Review: I would have to say as an avid Dean Koontz novel enthusiast, I would have to say that this novel is not one of Dean Koontz's best works. In the previous novels by Koontz you are indulged in the book as soon as you begin to read it. It took me a while to get into this book but as soon as the book started to pick up and get exciting it was a good book overall. However just as the book was starting to get exciting the book came to an abrupt end which was very disappointing.
The Mask begins with a couple in an adoption agency and they are discussing the possibility of adopting a child. The story drags on for the first 50 pages of the dialouge exchanged between the couple and the agent for the adopting agency. This is the point however that Dean Koontz is able to work his magic just as you are about to put the book down due to boredom the action begins. Just as they were about to leave the agency lighting strikes through the window causing mass confusion and excitement. I'm not going to further elaboarate on this scene due to the fact I don't want to spoil the surprise.
As the Tracys continue to live their lives after the adoption agency incident strange things begin to happen. Their once normal house is all of the sudden hampered by a constant hammering sound as if someone is trying to knock their house down. Also they see a suspicious I guess it could be described as an aporition that has frequented their back yard.
The real trouble begins when Carol is driving to work one day and when out of nowhere a girl walks out in front of Carol and Carol hits her with her car sending her flying into a ditch and what Carol beleives to be a permanent state of amnesia

Summary: NOT typical Koontz! Disappointing!!!
Review: I would only buy this book if you're a die-hard Koontz fan and don't have any more you can order! I can't believe that he really wrote this book! It was suspenseful and kept your attention. The plot really had possibilities. But he definitely did not pull it off! The ending was atrocious! Really disappointing. If you're reading Koontz for the first time, DON'T READ THIS ONE!! You may wind up casting off one of the best writers there is! Most of his books are brilliant! But not this one!!!

Summary: Not bad, quick read
Review: I'm a new Koontz fan - after Odd Thomas I became hooked. This is only the 3rd Koontz book I've read (I have two more waiting for me on the bookshelf as I type) - but I only thought this book was okay. I picked it up a the library and planned on reading it in one day (which I did).
It's definitely a quick read, but like the others have said...the ending leaves much more to be desired.
I'd recommend it if you're looking for a quick book to read, but be prepared to use your imagination to figure out the ending.

Summary: Great book!
Review: Not one of Koontz's best works but a very good read.

Summary: Not his best work
Review: The Mask has a great plot- a girl with no history, no memory...what's behind her eyes? What's in her mind? However, Koontz got a little carried away & I don't think he quite pulled off this story.

If you're looking for a great story by Koontz I'd recommend: The Bad Place, Key to Midnight, Whispers & Cold Fire.

Summary: quick read - even quicker ending
Review: The Mask started out good enough. It kept me intruiged as to who the girl was and how all the characters fit in with the initial characters of the prologue. Some of the scenes were pretty scary.

The plot and imagery reminded me of the movie The Ring, where a girl who was mistreated comes back from the dead to kill.

The ending stunk. It just ended in the middle of a scene. I turned the page expecting another chapter but there was none. I wanted to know what happens to the characters after the drama of the last struggle. What happens to Laura/Jane?

Summary: Hidden Behind the Mask is a Very Average Koontz Book
Review: This book is not up to the usual high standard of masterpiece quality work by Dean Koontz. It is a very slow paced novel with not much action. Most of the words within this novel are trying to get you attached to Carol and her husband and in fact you never really do get attached. I to be honest did not really care what happened to them. Likewise Jane Doe did not do much for me either and I couldn't have cared less halfway through the book if she got over her amnesia or not. There are a few cool chapters of a fight to the death between an old lady and her beloved cat but you've got get through a lot of boring chapters to reach this scene. There are far better Koontz novels out there to spend your money on instead of this one. Night Chills, Watchers and Intensity are three ones that I can remember just off the top of my head but there are more literature masterpieces by Koontz as well. The Mask is definitely not one of them though.
