Rating: Summary: One Important Baby! Review: Betty Dravis has written a story that has many interesting elements, including suspense and romance. It is a really suspenseful tale of scheming intrigue with a very original story premise. The plotline is interesting and unpredictable (what will happen to the Millennium Babe?), while the characters like Bitsy are people you like and care about. I look forward to the sequel!
Rating: Summary: A Pleasant Surprise! Review: Betty Dravis is more than a novelist--she is a story teller. She has done what few authors can by creating a serious plot, writing it in such a way as to bring the characters to life which made reading it fun. The story kept me on the edge of my seat while the "tongue in cheek" style of writing kept a grin on my face. The surprise ending blew me away. Now I'm anxiously awaiting the sequel!
Rating: Summary: A tense, gripping story of human hysteria Review: Betty Dravis' Millennium Babe: The Prophecy is a startling, almost apocalyptic story set in a world eerily parallel to our own, in which a popular Silicon Valley weatherman makes a seemingly unbelievable yet widely embraced prophecy about the first baby to be born on January 1, 2001. As the countdown winds to the relished and dreaded day, expectant mothers around the world feel terror and countries fight over the forthcoming "Millennium Babe". Millennium Babe is a tense, gripping story of human hysteria.
Rating: Summary: A Humorous Delight with an Interesting Message Review: Betty Dravis's book is a delightful tale. Within the battles for the "babe", we catch a glimpse of the human condition that so often prevails in our society--hysteria and fear of the unknown. What makes this story interesting and special is that Betty Dravis tells it with humor and a bit of sensitivity; and the characters themselves are caricatures, yet they are remarkably loveable and alive, and that is why it works. --Carl Rafala author of "Wildflower"

Rating: Summary: Spiritual nourishment from the BABE will warm your heart. Review: Every once in awhile a first novelist comes on the scene with an idea for a story that holds the promise for world improvement. Instead of all the junky, formulistic, overwritten, full-of-violence cardboard cutouts for characters that save the world from some apocalyptic event, the characters in this novel have a sense of compassion and destiny in wanting to protect and nourish the advent of The Prophecy. The first-born child of the new millennium is destined to bring a renaissance of spiritual possibilities to a world in desperate need. Who will control this child of special powers becomes the question for nations to ponder, and criminals to start plotting. The conditions for recognizing the TRUE BABE of The Prophecy becomes an international dilemma that baffles the authorities until a bright young married couple, owners of a small Silicon Valley electronics company, produces a computer program named The Baby Counter. At first I was put off by the cutesy names--Wetterman for T. V. weatherman, the Prophet, and Bitsy for a "little woman," his producer, who is really smart and gutsy-- but Bitsy and David grow on you because the author does such fine writing in particularizing their characters. The love scenes between Bitsy and David are beautifully written with passion, yet with a restraint and consideration of the others feelings without manipulation or psychological projection. These scenes show a real sense of moral fiber and maturity without losing their bite or sense of humor which is a special gift of this author. The story unfolds against the background of seaside Capitola, the Pinnacles National Monument, the fine restaurants of the Silicon Valley, and the descriptions are vivid enough to make me wish I was there interacting and enjoying a friendship with the characters and the settings. Some scenes are set in Washington D.C. as the President battles certain members of Congress who try to force him to denounce the prophecy. There are twists and turns to the plot that will keep the reader turning the pages as the bad guys try to manipulate and change the prophecy. The suspense builds right down to the final seconds and the ending is such a surprise that it made me gasp, and that is hard to do because rarely is THE climax followed by a second and Equal climax. Spiritual nourishment is lurking in the shadows of this unusual novel. Hold on to your heart, it succeeds in witty and loving ways "Bring on the sequel, Betty Dravis. Your readers are waiting."
Rating: Summary: Nice surprises await readers of B. Dravis' Millennium Babe Review: I bought MB:TP on the recommendation of a friend, expecting a light summer fantasy, to enjoy in moments stolen away from the demands on Mom during a hectic family vacation. I was pleasantly surprised, therefore, to have found much more in this multi-level story that caught my imagination from the very first chapter. The characters are everyman-likable, the story engrossing and the authors style smooth and lyrical. I could not help but chuckle at many of the cultural icons invoked. In fact, my only criticism of this novel is the authors choice of Good Morning America vs. Todays Katie Couric to introduce the hero to national acclaim. I do hope there's a sequel in the works, as the surprise ending has piqued my curiosity. Its so refreshing to read a novel that is free of gratuitous sex, violence and foul language! I found myself transported back to the kinder and gentler days of my youth, while still thoroughly enjoying the antics of the hero and his entourage & adversaries. Additionally (and in no way to disparage the book), the allegorical implications make this an ideal and thought provoking read for young readers, as well as a sweet trip for the young at heart.
Rating: Summary: fantastic Review: I have never read a book quite like Millennium Babe. The characters were more like caricatures, but so alive. I couldn't help laughing at them at times, but didn't want to laugh too loudly because I didn't want them to hear. All through the book I was wondering how it would end, what would happen to these people. I couldn't have been more surprised. THANKS BETTY
Rating: Summary: Millennium Babe: The Prophecy Review: I was going to read this book while I was on my way for my most exciting world adventure, Russia. Instead I ended up in the emergency ward at the hospital with my husband who had to have triple by-pass surgery. While I waited for five hours of surgery to be completed, I started reading Betty Dravis's book, Millennium Babe. I completely lost track of time, I was so into this book. Since I was born and raised in the Silicon Valley, all the places she talks about were familiar places to me. It was so much fun. I felt like I was reading a travel log of exciting places to go. And the food in the book, I had to go to the snack machines twice. I could hardly put the book down, but I was there for emergency surgery and this was not the plane to Russia. I was so grateful that Betty had written a really exciting book because it filled up every moment I sat in that waiting room. I could hardly resist reading the last chapter ahead of time, but I try not to cheat when it comes to wonderful books and their plots. I was not disappointed, the ending was a total surprise. I sat there looking at the green walls and wondering when the sequel was coming out. I had to know more about the Babe!!! Don't miss reading this book, expecially if you are from the Santa Clara Valley where it takes place. You will feel like you are home again and walking in an exciting future with adventure around every corner. If you don't know anything about Silicon Valley, you will think you have been there after reading this book. I hope Betty has already started that sequel.
Rating: Summary: A fun read Review: Ms. Dravis is a fresh new author who gives us a fun read with unique characters, like her zany weatherman, David Wetterman, who sets a wild chain of events into motion with his prediction for the first child born in the new millenium. The book takes you through a series of twists and turns, and hits you with a surprise ending that screams for a sequel.
