Rating: Summary: Lousy editing ruins a good story Review: This is an interesting story along the lines of "The Andromeda Strain" with elements of "The Hot Zone" and some cyberpunk influence. The story pulses with raw energy and shows that the author has real promise for future success. However, this book is hobbled by a serious flaw. The publisher should be ashamed of the editing and proofing in this book. There are dozens of blatant "spell-o's" in the book - cases where a spelling checker has substituted the wrong word. For example, the word "energy" might be substituted where "emerge" is the right word to fit the sentence. There is an average of one of these things every TWO PAGES or so and it makes it really difficult to read the book... kind of like hitting potholes while driving. This barrage of errors disrupts the flow of the story and makes the whole thing read like a first draft and not a published novel. Just because something passes through a spelling checker without complaint doesn't mean that it's OK! Two stars for the good story that's hiding among the potholes.
Rating: Summary: Mutter-out-loud awful Review: Wow...this book is terrible. From the painfully hackneyed cliches to the bothersome plot (complete with characters who add nothing to the novel), this book is awful. It does offer some Mystery Science Theater-esque value, but it's still not worth buying. The good news: if you do waste money on this book, it'll be over quickly. Only took me about 3 hours to finish. But, really...go take a knitting class, get your teeth cleaned, spend time with your kids, watch bad reality shows on TV. All would be a better way to spend an afternoon than reading this book.
