Summary: Regional author, national appeal
Review: Something is going on in Jackson, Mississippi. Something wild. Something deadly. When Shawn Forrest, the publicly-loved, privately-hated anchorwoman with dreams of grandeur and attitude to spare is found dead, who did it is anyone's guess.

Was it a jealous co-worker? There are quite a few with the desire and the opportunity. A drug-dependent overweight colleague with a secret of her own? An angry soon-to-be ex-husband? His barely past jailbait-aged girlfriend? Or was it a slightly-obsessed stalker with a thing for Fords? Perhaps it was a twisted little blackmail scheme gone wrong -- or did Shawn take her own life?

What happened is something even Shawn's big-boss, well-connected Daddy couldn't prevent. Even dead, Shawn still has the ability to hurt people. How many people will be put in danger before her murder can be solved?

This book gives you an all-access backstage pass to what can go on behind the scenes in the competitive world of a local television station. The story will keep you guessing to the very end, and even when you think you know the score, you just may be surprised. Follow likeable detectives Washington and McDaniel and their unlikely helper, reporter Carolyn Davis, as the truth is unwound from this interconnected circle of suspects. It's a wild, entertaining ride.

Summary: A terrific read, southern or not!
Review: We hear the term "Southern Writer" used as if the author's works are of limited interest to those outside the South. Joe Lee has created a work of fiction that passes the Mason-Dixon line. Its southern setting is only a piece of the pie. This is a fast-paced story, yet one fully developed to put the reader into the action. The surprises are believable, the characters an equal blend of likeable and despicable. And Joe puts a complete and satisfying end to every storyline. This is a much-matured effort from Lee's first book (On The Record), and it was very good!

Summary: Up and Coming Author
Review: With Joe Lee's latest novel, Dead Air, it appears that once again Mississippi is proving to be fertile ground for authors. The characters are well written in this murder mystery and it is fast paced for a thoroughly enjoyable read. Set in Jackson, Mississippi, the story involves the murder of a local television anchor. Mr. Lee certainly has a feel for the pace of Mississippi and proves that a well written story doesn't require a big city or exotic setting in order to be intriguing. For those willing to try new authors,I highly recommend you give Joe Lee's Dead Air a chance. Most people didn't read fellow Mississippian John Grisham's first novel, A Time to Kill, until after it was re-released following the success of The Firm. Here is an opportunity to discover a new up and coming author before everyone else does.
