Rating: Summary: ******** Review: A Meeting of Minds is an impressive feat. The story operates on multiple levels, with the characters facing challenges both professional and personal. The tensions and conflicts develop smoothly and steadily; and they play out in a way that leaves the reader satisfied and engrossingly entertained. Elizabeth Calloway has combined her business insights with a truly talented writing ability--the result of which is a unique novel. Hopefully it is the first of many.
Rating: Summary: Fresh Voice on a Fresh Subject Review: Calloway takes us into a world few of us knew existed, much less knew in detail. She uses writing talent and a fresh voice to bring insight into a fresh subject matter, something that is much needed in today's book world. A great read and a good value, this one is well worth the money!
Rating: Summary: A Romance of Minds Review: Elizabeth Calloway's moving, wryly intelligent take on the world of conventions and the city of Dallas is at once sophisticated and warmly funny. Calloway's prose is quietly heart-breaking, sharply focused, nostalgic and always, convincing as she creates a cast of characters who, in their struggles to succeed and find happiness, are sometimes their own worst enemies but sometimes their own best friends. Much of the appeal of the novel lies in the city that it evokes -- not the stereotypical "Dallas" of J.R. but a place of parks and giant pecan trees, running trails and wandering creeks, glamorous restaurants and high fashion, lush suburbs and unique skyscrapers -- in short, a setting that is both nostalgic and wittingly contemporary. In a sense, Dallas is the main character itself, with its rituals, quarrels, passions and comforts.

Rating: Summary: A Must-Read for Women in Business Review: If you enjoy watching "The Restaurant" or "The Apprentice," you'll love reading this corporate drama/family saga involving a female business owner, her coworkers, her family and how they're all entangled. Calloway has a smooth writing style with poetic descriptions of settings and vivid portrayals of strong emotions, creating an easygoing balance throughout the novel. In short, you'll feel like you KNOW these people . . . I recommend this book to any woman who has struggled to build a business while raising a family, or anyone who wants to try.

Rating: Summary: A Meeting of Minds = Plenty of Conflict Review: This is a fast-paced tale of career and personal relationships troubled by misunderstanding and sometimes deliberate treachery. Janie, a young mother, flees her unstable husband and wonders if an old friend could become a loving husband and father for her son. But her new love disappoints her, falling short of expectations. Matney, busy with running a successful destination management company, must deal with the return home of her daughter and grandson. Rhoades, so slick and smooth that even business savvy Matney is deceived, intends to steal Matney's company. These unforgettable characters love and trust; complain and accommodate; connive and deceive. In an innovative twist, instead of the son joining his father's business, it's the daughter bringing tension into her mother's company. Just when the reader relaxes, believing that things will work out, more hurdles appear in front of characters struggling to balance personal aspirations with the requirements of home and family. Oh, and I should mention that I am a Dallas transplant. Elizabeth Calloway has captured the wonderful and beautiful aspects of Dallas that make our city special.
