Summary: Unique, suspenseful, and well-developed
Review: A hardened, "dysfunctional" murderer becomes a sincere, suffering soul who senses others' pain intensely. Why? He is injected with an extract of Jesus' blood. Then...something proves terribly wrong, and a heart-wrenching internal struggle begins. Counter this dynamic with the protaganist's potential romatic interest--a woman who rightly is thrust into the ultimate "love/hate" dilemma. Myers combines crisp, driven prose with a cast of characters that are complex without being complicated. I cared for the people in this story--and sometimes that meant being torn between good people going in contrary directions. The pages turned quickly, as the author weaves spirituality with a host of psychological, moral and ethical challenges. Fantastic stuff!

Summary: A Good Thriller
Review: BLOOD OF HEAVEN is an above-average thriller that should please fans looking for suspense and supernatural intrigue.

The book's concept is based upon DNA research and, thus, is quite contemporary. Bill Myers seems to have done his homework, since the factual elements of the story come across as well researched (though now a bit dated, since the mapping of the genome has been completed). The story starts fast, introducing all the key players early and effectively, and only picks up the pace from there. I was engrossed from the very beginning. Unfortunately, I don't believe that Myers pulled of the finish as effectively as another more experienced author might have. The plot seems to unravel a bit about two-thirds of the way through, and though the resolution works I felt a bit of a letdown when I was finished.

That being said, it shouldn't prevent anyone from picking this one up. On the whole, BLOOD OF HEAVEN is a great read. Myers really is a good writer (he proved that with ELI), and my complaint isn't nearly serious enough to warrant a warn-off. Myers also effectively wraps in some powerful messages and warnings to today's church, and astute Christians would do well to pick up and ponder on them (in particular, the "law without mercy" thread). If you are a fan of authors like Frank Peretti, Sigmund Brouwer, or even Michael Crichton, you will probably be interested in this book (which is only the first in the FIRE OF HEAVEN trilogy). It's a fun, quick read that will have leave you wanting more.

Summary: WOW, This Guy Can Write!
Review: Ever since my bout with a serious illness I've had a constant passion for "Christian Fiction" based novels. I am constantly amazed at how many different concepts writers can devise based on the life of Christ. This book is by far the most entertaining "Christian Fiction" novel I have read to date, and you certainly do not need to be a Christian to enjoy it. This book is in a class by itself. It is the first book I have ever read through in one sitting - it really keeps you on the edge of your seat! The characters in this book are so real they come to life before your very eyes. Absolutely superb writing and well researched. Thanks Bill for the GREAT READ!

Summary: A LOOK AT THE NOVELS OF REVELATION
Review: I am a very big fan of novels that deal with the Biblical Apocalypse and, with so many different types, thought it would be worthwhile to give an overview of the ones I have read.

Left Behind, by Tim Lehay- The series that started it all. These novels are, in truth, somewhat boring, but it covers the bases with a depth that none of the others do, probably owing to the fact that there are so many of them. They lack character development and deep theology, but are a fun, if shallow read

The Christ clone Trilogy by James Beauseigneur- Well written novels that focus on the scientific and political. Tom Clancy meets Left behind is not too far off the mark. I greatly enjoyed these books although I felt a little let down by the ending. Overall, a good political take on the End.

We All Fall Down by Brian Caldwell- Certainly the most controversial of these novels. The focus here is the individual and why someone would ever in their right mind reject salvation. Very brutal, although probably more realistic, in its depiction of the End. This is certainly not a book for the timid, but for the rest, I found it the most intelligent, well written, and, oddly enough, spiritual of the bunch. It's hard to walk away from this book with feeling to need to take a fresh look at one's own relationship to Christ.

Blood of Heaven, by Bill Myers- These are intelligent, character focused novels. I found the theology again to be a little weak, but really enjoyed following the distictive characters.

The Last Gentile Trilogy by Cary Bybee- Better written than Left Behind, but lacking the scope of that work. Like conquest of Paradise or Christ clone, it it based in science, but perhaps too much. Not enough religion for my taste.

Summary: Awesome book!
Review: I purchased this book many years ago thinking I would just read it because I was bored. This book was so great I couldn't put it down. Blood of heaven is the book that introduced me to Bill Myers writing. I love his books. He is an awesome writer! You won't be disappointed!

Summary: As a Christian book it is a flop, generally an ok read
Review: I read this and was kept entertained, but if you are looking for a Christian book that will fill you with fire and inspire you to become a better Christian - go and buy a Frank Peretti book.

If you are looking for an entertaining book with a vague Christian content, then this is the book for you.

Summary: Characterization of Heaven
Review: I wanted to review this book because it is probably my favorite Christian book. I am a Christian, but I read almost a hundred percent secular books because most of the Christian stuff just isn't good enough, but this book is another one of the huge exceptions. Don't let the other reviews confuse you. This is not really that much about Jesus' blood, but about inner conflict. I don't want to spoil the story line so I will leave it at that. The highest point of this book is Characterization. The characters felt so real I it was like they were really alive, and I was watching their drama. This is an excellent book. I would recommend it even if you are of the secular audience.

Summary: Great Plot But Weighed Down With Research Data ...
Review: I'm a BIG fan of Michael Crichton and John Grisham, as well as Frank Peretti. So when I first read this book's title, I was intrigued. The story moved well, I thought, and the plot line fantastic (imagine the blood of Jesus Christ coarsing through your veins!!), but the research Mr. Myers had to do for the book weighed down the story with all the details he put in. It's the kind of mistake that your English teacher told you in school when a writing assingment was due: too many specifics tend to bog down your story. this was the case with Blood of Heaven. It also seemed to me to have been unresolved at the end. I wasn't sure if Myers wanted his readers to leave with the impression of a seuqel. The main character came off as a wimp before the geneticist, Murkowski, and overall, the book was on the negative side. Otherwise, great plot, though.

Summary: A thriller
Review: This book is pretty good---not stupdendous, but not bad either. Although it is billed as Christian fiction, compared with other Christian fiction books, there is not much of the spiritual aspect--bible verses, etc. This is Christian on the idea of WHO we are, and how our better nature can be brought out.

The idea of a blood/DNA transfer to bring about genetic engineering is pretty current; although I will agree with another reviewer that at times the technical aspects of the book were just too heavy. And it's hard to write a book with a lot of technology in it because it is dated so quickly.

The characters were pretty well written. I loved the baboon, Freddy; and thought that Katherine's trials were well written and believeable.

I would recommend this book.
