Rating: Summary: Exciting new author Review: A woman is found murdered, posed on top of an undisturbed motel room bed. She is lying on her back, naked, with her feet propped together, toes up, and her arms folded across her chest mummy-style. There are no signs of a struggle and there is no obvious cause of death. The killer is named The Sandman because his victims seemingly just fall asleep without a fight. This book scores a 10! It's a gritty noir with great characters and a really twisted serial killer. Suspense and thriller fans will love it. It's a page turner, and it ranks up there among the best I've read this year.
Rating: Summary: Great new author Review: Cube 6 is a terrific medical thriller. The characters are interesting, the plot is fast paced, and the descriptions of medical school settings, particularly the human anatomy lab, and the medical research facility on the Washington coast paint a visual picture that is hard to forget. Griffin is much better than Robin Cook. I'd recommend this book to all mystery and thriller fans.

Rating: Summary: Great Debut Review: Cube 6 is an outstanding debut by Thomas Griffin. The authors knowledge of both the medical research and investment world is unique and combine to create a fresh and compelling work. I am looking forward to a second book by this author.
Rating: Summary: THE PERFECT AIRPLANE BOOK Review: Cube 6 kept me completely interested and engaged for hours and hours. I read it in two sittings. The characters are interesting and there is a really GREAT plot twist that made me say, "Whoah!" right out loud (you can ask my boyfriend). I also laughed several times, event though most of the time I was reading it I was pretty anxious because it has a lot of suspense. That is my idea of a good book. A friend of mine let me read her copy but then I bought seven more for presents. Teh cover is really cool.
Rating: Summary: The author gets an A, the proofreader fails Review: I enjoyed reading this book. It was well written and the plot was engaging. Since I live in Seattle and went to medical school here, I enjoyed the descriptions of the Seattle area and the med school. But a great thriller should be more than plot. This one is partly about medical school research, but you really don't get much of a sense of the culture there. It is about journalists covering the story and trying to track the killer, but you don't really get a feel for life as a journalist or the issues a journalist faces when working on a crime story. It is partly about biotech companies and drug development, but you really don't learn much about that world either. To earn five stars, I think a murder mystery has to be more than plot. It has to teach you about a time or place you don't know about or be a true novel with compelling characters. This one doesn't quite cut it. Even so, I enjoyed the hours I spent reading it and can recommend it to others.
Rating: Summary: Really a fun mystery Review: I loved this book. Griffin reminds me a lot of Patterson, only a lot more fun. Cube 6 is a medical thriller with lots of plot twists and turns. The good guys, Jon Kirk, a repoter for a Seattle newspaper, and Karen Able, a detective with the Seattle police, really come alive. And their romantic encounters are really, really funny. The Sandman, the bad guy, is as scary as they come. Anyone looking for an exciting, fun, page-turner should read this book.
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ Review: It's funny, it's spooky, it's scarey, and I stayed up all night reading it. Jon Kirk and Karen Able make a great detective duo, and I hope we'll see them again in a sequel. Griffin really knows how to build suspense. It's the best medical thriller I've read in a long time.
Rating: Summary: An unoriginal serial killer novel Review: Prostitutes are dying in the Seattle area. They are being found in a similar manner- nude on a bed with arms crossed like a mummy. The cause of death appears to be an exotic drug. Leading the investigation is Detective Karen Able. Her sometime boyfriend, Jon Kirk, reporter for the Seattle Times is also investigating the case. Jon nicknames the killer "the sandman" due to his mode of killing his victims. The killer decides to communicate through Jon via phone calls. When it is discovered that a professor of Anatomy at the local medical school is missing, the police believe they finally have a suspect. The problem is to now capture him before he kills again. This must bring Karen and Jon into harms way to solve the case. There is so much that I liked in this first effort. The writing flows well with a well paced and compelling plot. Characters, especially the two main protagonists are well sketched and quite likable. The others are also well done but the villain is a characature. The book concerns drugs and drug research so it was a bit disappointing that the author did not write about what he knew best at least in this work- mainly cancer treatment. Probably the biggest problem with the book is the lack of originality. Serial killer novels are probably a dime a dozen according to the major publishers. To succeed after so many others before, it is vital that there be a spark of originality. At least something that has not been written before. I could never overcome the feeling that I have read this book before in some other form. Therefore, I am impressed by Dr. Griffin's writing style and characterizations but decidedly not with the originality. He might be worth watching. We shall see with his subsequent work.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down Review: Though the first two victims are hookers found dead in motels with no evidence of homicide, Seattle citizens worry about a Northwest Ripper living amongst them. Frightening the locals with his eerily serene descriptions, Seattle Times reporter Jon Kirk calls the culprit the Sandman based on the way the victims seem to go gently "asleep" into the night. The local authorities react to the media attention given to the Sandman by setting up a task force headed by Detective Karen Able. A clue leads to University of Washington Medical School Professor Holyoke, but no one can locate him. As Jon and Karen reluctantly combine their talents to uncover a killer and locate the missing professor, the Sandman officially becomes labeled a serial killer as the count rises. Thomas W. Griffin rolls a seven with his first novel, CUBE 6, an exciting urban noir gritty police procedural. The suspense rises as the audience follows the mental competency of the killer deteriorate over time, and the anxiety of Jon and Karen towards each other and towards stopping the Sandman. However, the subplot involving the tempestuous relationship between the lead characters seems contrived to add stress on and between the cop and the journalist. When they stick to the case, the audience observes a strong exciting investigative thriller while true tenson forms between the protagonists. Suspense fans and police procedural readers will appreciate this action packed novel.
