I absolutely could not put the book down. I started one evening at 8pm and read almost straight through. Without spilling the story, the action that a young man and his band of friends were subjected to first voluntarily and then involuntarily is incredible. There is passion, excitement and multiple tricks in the plot that keep you wondering: Did this really happen? After finding out some about the author, there is such description to some of the characters that I wonder where is the fiction and what was real life. But apparently the author is not the one to ask. I would highly recommend this book. It is worth the effort to order it.

It is fun, exciting, and really gives vivid pictures for one's imagination. I believe there is a fine line between truth and fiction in this book, and I hope the suspense lasts through the whole series. I'm sure that it will. This is a MUST-READ.

Mr Smith wrote the book in such a way that I felt as if I knew each and every character personally. I laughed and cried with each one. The ending of FRINGE PATRIOTS certainly left me wondering, and wanting more from this new writer. I can harldy wait until the release of the second book in this series. I certainly look forward to reading it and am waiting anxiously for it to be released.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Outstanding and well written Review: In spite of the few poor reviews that previous readers wrote in regardes to this book, I view it as outstanding, fun to read and makes you want more. I had the opportunity to meet and spend time talking with Carl Smith, he's a wonderful person, I see a lot of him in this book (Clay Smith). To the so called Army Intelligence Office who had nothing except bad to say about this book, he must be one of those callous officers Mr. Smith was referring to in the book. The truth is out about how the real Army intelligence operates and this guy didn't like the idea that the secret is out. This book is a must buy and an unforgettable read.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Telling entertainment Review: In spite of the previous review by the army "intelligence" officer, pun intended, this was an incredible read. I would highly recommend it.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Not much here Review: In the introduction to FRINGE PATRIOTS, David G. Gerkin, MD, Brigadier General, says: "This amazing first book, a chronicle of the past, has produced a sound rendering of reality mixed with fiction in an arena of war that often deprives youth of innocence..." A very apt interpretation of what the book is about.Smith has broken the mold with this one and offers readers a book both men and women will enjoy. FRINGE PATRIOTS is a strong mix of military thriller and romantic suspense. This combination works well together. A tale of good versus evil, corrupt military and government officials, and four young people who take on these evildoers. The reader is left wondering how much is based on actual fact and how much is embellishment, with the hope that most of it is fictionalized and the suspicion it is not. A book that is based in reality and the first in a series, FRINGE PATRIOTS is one book that will be appreciated by many in and out of the military arena, especially during this time of American history.
