Summary: Good, but not Pineiro's best
Review: "Y2K", while some may think it's outdated due to its title, is still an entertaining read. Pineiro, the author of numerous techno-thrillers, combines the action of a good Ludlum novel with a high tech background story. While better than many techno-thrillers, this one is not the best of Pineiro's works.

The story opens on a high note with the massacre of a CIA team due to a slip in security procedures. The lone survivor, a 19 year veteran of the CIA, decides to leave the force and start her life anew. Little does she know that she can't leave her past totally behind her. She falls for the CEO of a company that has developed a software application designed to fix parts of the dreaded Y2K problem. However, there are others who want the code -- some want it for the good of the world and others want it in order to hold the world hostage.

While the book does start well and develops well, the chase to retrieve the Y2K code becomes a bit tedious and, at some points, a bit hokey. With all techno-thrillers, the reader needs to suspend rational thought a bit, but this one seemed too farfetched in places. The tie-ins with the enemy and the other party involved in obtaining the code is too unbelievable. Although the days of Y2K are now behind us, this is still a good read for fans of techno-thrillers. Just be prepared to stretch your imagination a bit more than with other similar novels.

Summary: An outstanding book from a talented author
Review: A very exciting book. Using Slobodan Milosevic for a villain was very original. This book displays the cutthroat nature of international espionage. This book also show Pineiro's talent for computers. I wish that Hollywood would put some of Pineiro's books on the silver screen. I have yet to read a bad Pineiro book. This is a must buy book

Summary: FANTASTIC
Review: I grabed this book while having some EXTENSIVE layovers in Dallas airport. It was my second book by R.J. This one was even better then 01-01-00. I read the entire book while on my way back home and never even noticed the flight and time wasted in the airport. Thanks R.J. for making what chould have been a borring time great. The book took you from America to Europe. It had everyone involved, the CIA, England Secret service, XKGB operatives....and best of all it had a plot of people falling in love. love makes for the best underlying plot of all. Great job.

Summary: if you get to pg 108 u will not set it down
Review: I thought this book was par at best the charecters were over emphasized. The whole plot is too unbelivible, (the main charecter just happens too fall in love w/ the same people wh tried too kill her previously, yet the tourture scenes had given a good visual and the villan was smartly chosen , but in the end just ends up too bland and seems like a carbon copy of a short Tom Clancy novel, alright if you're a spy,CIA,espionage junkie otherwise you can read if you have nothing else.

Summary: Pleasant enough..but bland
Review: In the tradition of Tom Clancy & the rest of the technothriller gang, Pineiro's 'Y2K' is decent if already outdated only months after its release.

What it essentially boils down to is Slobodan Milosevic's desire to un-Y2K-compliant the United States. Considering the lack of Y2K-related problems, Milosevic wouldn't have caused a stir. It seems like Pineiro wanted to write a Y2K story but couldn't come up with anything plausible.

Good writing, nothing spectacular.

Summary: What a Ride!
Review: Pineiro does it again!

The characters are well developed and believable. The use of current events and political villans makes the book feel real and immersive. It is a wonderfully crafted novel that will keep you reading through the night.

One word of warning - this is a very realistic novel depicting graphic instances of the Kosovo ethnic cleansing, not recommended for those with weak stomachs or those to young for the brutallity and horrorific depictions.

Great Book!

Review: There are not many books I read where I get to point where
I must not put it down.
I got to page 108 and I could not put it down. I am type of person who likes to hold off from finishing book. To make enjoyment last longer.

1. I was surprised with the title and story not being on 1/01/00 or 1/01/01. Which was good in my viewpoint
2. He needs to get over Lost Creek subdivision. Come on there are other subdivisions in Austin that nice and have interested landscaped to be utilized in his stories.
3. U ever been to Austin you will love the refers to Austin...

Summary: Great book showing another disadvantage of the Y2k!
Review: This was a great book. It never had a dull moment to me. It kept me on the edge and my mind thinking about it. This is my first book by Pineiro, but it won't be my last. I enjoyed the plot and the involvement of the CIA and the agencies. The villian was a great pick and you'll get a glimpse of how the power can be so great that the villians will do anything to stay in control. So, get prepared for a suspense-filled book. It makes you wonder if someone else is doing the same thing and if so, how are we going to stop them.
