Rating: Summary: Deep yet NOT boring-Better than any Lifetime TV movie! Review: Although this book was pretty deep as far as the subject matter-at the core it is a great story about teenage love, and maybe perhaps obligation, that we sometimes feel to a partner who we've been with for a long time. And the reasons we stay with them even though we think they really aren't "the one."
This book had me guessing pretty much until the end-I couldn't figure out what was going to happen or who did what until the very end. Although even the end has you guessing.
Picoult portrayed young love, but mostly obsession, beautifully and with mastery. If you love lifetime movies, you'll probably read this book more than once!
Rating: Summary: *amazing* Review: Annotation: Two teens who have grown up next door together from birth and have spent most of their lives with each other are now 17 years old and dating. One night both sets of parents get the phone call no parent ever hopes to get: their daughter is dead and their son is hurt but alive and with her. This is first considered a suicide pact and then a murder. As the months go on the son ends up in jail awaiting his trial. This story follows two families that are as close as can be but are now seperated. It has a suprise ending... this is all I want to can say because I don't want to ruin the book Ü
Author Bio: Jodi Picoult has received an A.B in creative writing from Princeton and a master's in education from Harvard. The Pact has just recently been made into a film by Lifetime and she has also written 6 other novels. She resides in New Hampshire with her husband and 3 children.
Evaluation: I could not put this book down. It was a tear jerker and you could feel the emotion of book very strongly. This is by far one of the best books I have ever read and I would like to find a copy of the movie. All I have to say is that I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone and it's a very touching story. You will not forget it.
Rating: Summary: Like a Sucker Punch to the Gut! Review: Did he or didn't he?
That question plaques your mind after just a few chapters of The Pact. Picoult really stikes gold with the Hartes and the Golds, just your average upper/middle class perfect families until tragedy strikes. This novel is told with the use of flashbacks in both Em's and Chris' voice, in addition to their respective families, which shows that things are never what they seem (which I've been telling my mother for years). Sometimes boundaries are needed, and in this book its hard to figure out if its the parents, the kids, or the parents and the kids. I laughed and I cried, and cried somemore. To me, a novel that pulls at your emotions they was The Pact does is truly a well-written novel.
Regardless, this book moved me so much I went straight to Picoult's website and decided to read more of her work. I thought it was a truly poignant story of what is happening across the country today.
Rating: Summary: WOW I love this book! Review: From the moment I picked it up, I couldn't put this book down. It was great. I swear, I had never read a book that got to me like this book did. I read another book by Picoult before, and I love how she writes. This is the only book ever that has made me actually cry. The Lifetime Channel made a movie of it but it was nowhere near as good as the book. I think it was very real. The way the character's feelings are described were just very real. I loved the description she uses. I know I will definitely be reading this book again! I definitely recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Writing-cheesey, story good Review: I cringed several times when I read this book as sometimes it felt as though I was reading a trashy romance novel as the writing is extremely cheesey. For the first 100 pages I was quite bored and regretted starting the novel as I always finish every book I start. However once one of the characters gets put in jail the whole book comes to life and grips you until the end.
I kept changing my mind all through the book as to whether I thought the accused was guilty of the crime or not.
It is the kind of book you might take to the beach or on holidays.
Rating: Summary: Wow. Review: I have never read any other books by Jodi Picoult.I will now. The Pact was simply an amazing book. It was incredibly thorough. There are times that I will read a book and feel sad at the end of a happy ending...Why? Because the author rushed it. Yet Picoult took her time, the right amount of time, and finished with a bang. This is the story of two teenagers, deeply in love, and a suicide pact. Or was it not a suicide pact? Chris and Emily grew up together from day one, and every memory was filled with the other as a permanent fixture in their life. Yet one of them is dead, the other alive, and two families, best friends, are torn apart? What happened on that night? Picoult takes the reader through an amazing book, leaving me, personally, in tears at times. Her knowledge of the court and trial process, along with her understanding of the love between those two teenagers, was immense. I would recommend this book to anyone. It truly opens your eyes.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Felt so real. Review: I just finished reading this book. Amazing! I was in tears before I finished and had to keep reminding myself it was a book. The characters felt so real to me. I wanted to reach out and help them. Help them overcome their problems and go on with their lives. Picoult is an amazing author. I can't wait to read more of her books.
Rating: Summary: Healing Review: I probably would not have read this book if I'd really known what it was about as we had recently lost a child to suicide. However, I am glad that I read it. It was enormously healing to read about other families facing the same sort of loss. The story was also well done. I could completely understand why the main characters acted as they did and also see how tragically unnecessary it was. Great book. Nicely written, believeable characters.
Rating: Summary: I LOVE IT!! Review: I recently read The Pact by Jodi Picoult. This story was about a relationship that kept growing since birth. Two people, Emily and Chris, loved each other so much that they would rather die than hurt each other. Jodi Picoult was born in 1966. She got a BA from Princeton University, and then she went to Harvard University. She published The Pact in 1998. Many other novels were written by this author. Some of those books include: Songs of Humpback Whale, Harvesting the Heart, Picture Perfect, Mercy, Keeping Faith, Plain Truth, and Salem Falls. I am definately looking forward to reading more of her writing. This book has become one of my favorite novels. It kept me interested from the first page to the last. There were even times when I became emotionally involved in some parts of the book. When a sad event happens, and all the sudden your eyes well up with water, then thats when you can tell that the book did what it was supposed to do. The type of love Chris and Emily had for wach other is very rare. They were basically one person stuck oin two different bodies. When Emily becomes pregnant, she fears that both sets of parents would never understand therefore she decides to commit suicide with Chris at her side. When he survives, he gets blames for the death of his love and gets put in jail. I rate this book as a 5 because i couldn't be any better.
Rating: Summary: I loved this love story! Review: I'm new to Jodi Picoult and I am now a true fan! What a great story. Jodi does an amazing job of capturing the reader in the first few sentences...I could not and did not want to put this book down! I cried, laughed and cried again! I found myself not wanting it to end...this is my new favorite book! Some people were disappointed with the ending, but I found it to fit the book! I highly recommend this book, I can't wait to read more from Jodi!
