Summary: Lock your doors and try to remember what you were doing...
Review: A breakout hit of a first novel, "The People Next Door," carries shades of the finest works of horror/science fiction. A well-written heroine, Amanda Harris, finds herself in the lucky position of owning a new home. Soon, however, the irritating neighbours go from being minor annoyances to being a major threat, and the plot begins to pick up a manic pace.

Amanda is written as a very plausible heroine - no shrieking and wailing for this woman, but neither no Sigourney-Weaver overkill. Werner has a deft touch with her characters that bring you into their heads, and keeps you there while you bite fingernails on their behalf.

From vanishing memories and time, and implanted chips, Amanda's story sets you to the edge of your seat, and keeps you pinned there throughout. The plot unravels wonderfully, jacking up the tension a little at a time with each revelation, and the villains of the story are a definite surprise!

So, kick back, lock the doors, and mark the time. Then, if you think you can handle it, give "The People Next Door," a read, and prepare to be shaken.

Summary: Unbelievable Twists and Turns
Review: Ann Werner's imagination is fantastically fertile and creates a thriller that you won't be able to put down. When the heroine, Amanda, bought her new condo with a recent inheritance, she thought the second half of her life would be calm, peaceful and maybe even fulfilling. But when she finds things moved from where she left them; when she and her daughter both have mysteriously identical "bites"; when her neighbors act more and more bizarre, her dream of peace is shattered. Amanda has no choice but to investigate. This gutsy woman isn't about to let someone or something drive her from her new home. So blindly she goes hunting for answers, all of which fill her with increasing alarm and panic. Had she known what she would encounter on her search, she probably would have run as far away as possibe. But now she is stuck wth her discoveries, the apparent conspiracies, the dead bodies, the stangers with guns, the unnerving noises from next door and now a surprising new acquaintance. She is in danger and no one can save her but herself. How she survives will frighten and thrill you.

Summary: RIVETING SCI-FI
Review: Ann Werner, through "The People Next Door" has convinced me that sci-fi can be enjoyable. Because her protaginist, Amanda, is a feisty, intelligent, amusing lady, her encounters with alien beings becomes eerily believable. Written with fast paced action, witty dialogue, and imaginative fervor, this book is guarenteed to keep your adrenaline pumping. Plausible plotline leaves the reader wary of unexplained phenomenons. Only good writing can alter one's perceptions, and altered they will become. Strong messages underline, making this a thoughtful read as well as grand entertainment. Good debut novel that should be a must on every sci-fi lover's shelves, and on newbies who desire a venture into this genre.

Summary: LEAVE ALL THE LIGHTS ON!!!!
Review: First, remember the name Ann Werner. Then, put the word "Author" after it because after reading her first novel, "The People Next Door," you will always, always say ANN WERNER, AUTHOR!

Ann Werner, Author, has created a spine-tingling; things that go bump in the night; leave the light on sci-fi thriller where the reader experiences a range of emotions starting with that little chill to goose bumps -- to full blown heart palpitations.

Ann Werner, Author, has brought to life, Amanda -- a warm, humorous and intelligent female who does not walk away in the face of fear, but takes the bull by the horn to save self, daughter, home and cats. Yes, her beloved cats. Ann Werner, Author, writes with a touch of Stephen King, adding the descriptive style of Anne Perry. She sets a scene and you are there! Amanda is also every alleged over-the-hill aged female who encounters that spark triggered by l-o-v-e and rides it out it accordingly.

Personally, I thank Ann Werner, Author for keeping me awake all night with one of those special ' I'm scarred but can't put this book down until I find out about THE PEOPLE NEXT DOOR' novels.

Summary: A Definite Page Turner!
Review: I started this book one afternoon and couldn't put it down till the last page. Having not read much sci-fi wasn't sure I would like it but, it was never a problem with this book. Felt like I was right there with Amanda throughout the whole book. Amanda is so excited to finally be moved in to her new place. She has her 2 cats and her own business and a daughter who is finding her own place in the world. Life is perfect! Till those strange things start happening. Misplaced items, little moments in time that seem to get away from her. Things disappear and then just as suddenly reappear. Amanda begins to think she is losing her mind. After her daughter seeks medical attention for a bug bite that turns out to be an implanted chip things set off on a rapid search for the truth and what is really happening. Hang on cause from this point on you can't stop till the last page. Am really looking forward to Ann Werner's next book. Was very impressed with her first and am sure it won't be her last.

Summary: Reccomended reading.
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this story. A friend reccomended I give it a read and I am so glad I did. I am a fan of author's such as Dean Koontz and Stephen King. I have now added Ann Werner to that list. Her writing is intelligent, witty and succinct. I appreciate the fact the Heroin is a woman of maturity but also a woman who has a silly, crazy and adventurous side. Her writing reads like a movie and is very easy to picture. A very X files-esque story that is suspenseful and quite a page turner. I would reccomend this story to anyone who appreciates a talented story teller. I can't wait for the next one.

Summary: Imaginative and engrossing.
Review: I was completely trapped in this novel from beginning to end. Amanda moves into her new condo, and things just seem to take a turn for the worse, starting with the peculiar people next door. She starts losing time, first minutes then hours. A so-called bug bite on her thigh turns into a master plan that has nothing to do with an insect at all. Imagination abounds as the author keeps the reader on a twisting and turning path through the millennia.

I was fascinated by the premise of this book, to tell you more would give away a plot that simply captivates and boggles the mind. The writing is concrete and fast paced, perfect for a page-turner. This is the author's first novel and I will certainly read her next. I would give this novel 4.5 stars if I had the option. Kelsana 3/18/02

Summary: A Brand New Old Fashioned Classic
Review: Imagine this. H. G. Wells jumps into his time machine and comes forward to meet with Alfred Hitchcock. The two masters collaborate on a chilling thriller. The book they come up with? Why, none other than "The People Next Door." Ann Werner has created a work of art with sublte sci-fi and creepy mystery. Heart stopping chills and awe inspiring wonders tied together with a fine romantic thread keep the reader riveted until the very last page. And it doesn't end there! "The People Next Door," will keep haunting the reader long after the last page is turned. Don't miss out on this new classic! Order this book today! And don't let your neighbors know what you are reading. The people next door may be after you!!!

Summary: A good intriguing read
Review: The People Next Door is a fast moving, intriguing and modern science fiction novel. I could really associate myself with menopausal Amanda. Amanda seems to experience all the emotions of menopause but then they become scary facts like those bumps in the night.
