Rating: 3 stars
Summary: A Lengthy Explanation
Review: This is a novel in two parts. Part One: a lengthy narrative by Polton in which we learn, basically, his origin story. Lot's of detail about clocks and clockmaking. An easy pace, leisurely. Not at all like a modern best-selling thriller. Part Two: a shorter narrative by Jervis of a body burned in a house fire. Details of Polton's earlier narrative are key in Thorndyke's solution of the mystery. I enjoyed this book a lot, though it's not one of my favorite Freeman detective stories.
