Summary: Not one of the best
Review: After finishing the eighth book in the Jane Jeffry Mystery series, I was disappointed. I like to start at the beginning of the series. This way I feel like I am not missing any important character development. I could have skipped "War and Peas". I was disappointed in the ending. It didn't come as a surprise (I did think that it was someone else). The ending came out of the blue. Miss Churchill attempted to pull it together but it just didn't work for me. The topic that she chose to tie the book together was out of character from her previous novels. I hope that her next novel takes a different path.

Summary: Not the best of "cozies"
Review: For what it is, I believe War and Peas is fine. With a light plot, pseudo-interesting, under-developed characters, and an interesting setting, it fills its job description. However, the "plot twists" were rather implausible, and coincidence is too prevalent. If cozy, light, mystery reads are what you want, this is an "ok" choice; there are better options out there.

Summary: The Jane Jeffrey series is always fun.
Review: Housewives and amateur detectives Jane and Shelley volunteer at a local museum established to honor the late Pea King Auguste Snellen, who earned his fortune selling seeds for varieties of peas he developed. As always happens when Jane and Shelley are around, there are murders to be solved. The first victim is the young director of the museum. The pace seemed to be slower than in other mysteries in the Jane Jeffrey series. There also wasn't as much interaction with the children, or as many of the everyday chores of a mom and housewife that have made the characters so real in other books in the series, and I missed that. But as always with this series, it was a fun, cozy read.

Summary: A Fun Fast Read
Review: How does Jill Churchill come up with the ideas for her stories? It amazes me that each of her books is always so fresh and original. Jane and Shelly feel like old friends and it was good to catch up with them again. I had no idea peas could be so interesting, or the workings of a museum, for that matter.

Summary: A fun read
Review: I'm a sucker for titles that make me groan, and I've liked other light mysteries by this author, so I knew about what to expect. It is not profound literature, but it was a fun, fast read. And, gee, I don't think I've ever read a murder mystery set in a pea museum, so it was a familiar experience with a touch of novelty.

Summary: A Catchy Title
Review: The best thing about this book is the title. Jane Jeffry and Shelley Nowack are not interesting characters and the action drags. It wasn't quite bad enough but what I was able to finish reading the book, but I wouldn't buy another in the series. Well, anyway, now if someone asks me if I have read "War and Peace" I can say, "Well, not exactly. . . ."

Summary: War and Peas is great!
Review: Unlike the other reviewers, I thoroughly enjoyed War and Peas. The museum setting, and the "historical" opening worked wonderfully, and the psychological twist added depth and interest. Great secondary characters, and a good mystery. Highly recommended!
