Rating: Summary: Rock n' roll at its worst (best?)... Review: Although it's riddled with typos and is written in a plain, captain's-log style, this book is certainly what it describes: an account of GG's last days on the road. If you ever wondered what life was really like behind the scenes of a GG Allin tour, this book will enlighten you: it was every bit as depraved and violent as the concerts themselves. Keep in mind that this book is not for the faint-hearted--do a little research on GG before you decide to buy this.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: As somone who knew GG and who knows Evan Cohen, I can vouch for Evan's credibilty. The book was a great read. A must for anyone interested in the history of rock&roll.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant! Review: Evan Cohen is the Bruce Chatwin of the hardcore punk underground. This book is a must-have for GG fans or those interested in the, uh, extremities of the human condition. The pics are great too -- my fave is GG in a stormtrooper helmet shaking the hand of Johnny Cash (GG loved Cash and Hank Williams the First). Cohen has a great eye for the critical detail, and I gotta salute anyone who would have gone through his experiences on this trip. I would have bailed after ten minutes. Evan, maybe I'll run into you in NYC one of these days. If so, the first Snapple's on me.
Rating: Summary: If you dont know who gg allin was read this book. Review: GG Allin makes M Manson look like a school girl. The book is short to short. For all gg allin did with his life, And all the pics that should have been in there. There is a lot missing.... It will take people who never heard of GG ALLIN on a shocking ride, That seems unreal untill they see a video.. Its worth the read.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: I didnt know that much about gg but after i read it, it opened up. He is crazy...This man is a punk god. Now i am a fan to bad he is dead! who ever wrote this book nows gg good it feels like i was there when i was reading it. I picked it out for a english project but it had to much grapic pictures and bad words for me to read in class(now thats a shame) it but i still read it and it was worth every penny! GG Allin is the man! BEST BAND EVER
Rating: Summary: free your mind Review: I'm going to be honest: I was afraid to read this book. I don't assimilate disturbing imagery well and I was afraid certain details of the book might become forever lodged in my mind, haunting and confusing me. That's exactly what happened.
In support of the author I finally decided to just jump into the book, come what may. Two days after the book arrived (and after two days of placing the gruesome cover face down on my desk) I picked it up and started to read. Forty-eight hours later I feel sympathy for a man whom many might say deserved none, and that, I believe, is due to what was the loyally enmeshed and yet cautiously objective presence of author, roadie, documentarian, and honorary Murder Junkie Evan Cohen.
I read this book in three separate sittings and found myself rearranging my schedule to make time for the last thirty unread pages. No stranger to the road myself, I delighted in the memories evoked by the details of the band's tour: hard travel, long hours behind the wheel, bad food, cheap motels. Any similarity to my experiences ends abruptly there, as GG and the Murder Junkies are subjected to the equally unpredictable nature of their fans, sleazy booking agents, and horrific opening bands. They are steeped in drink, illness, women, exhaustion, country music, adrenaline, liberty, and madness. Cohen's attention to detail gives a specific, genuine, and purposeful life to all of these elements, as well as to GG himself. This book is alive, undated, a testimonial to the purity (or impurity) of the moment.
Like most anyone who saw GG Allin perform, I felt curiosity and apprehension about approaching the subject, even in book form. Now that I have read it, I see that I needn't have worried. Cohen graciously affords the reader the option of standing near the back in the safe zones, but he also expands those zones to bring you face-to-face (as he literally was) with the incomprehensible and abstract violence, the sociopathic perversion, the thrill of rage - all the intensity available via the terrified, yet unflinching, mind's eye of the author.
Evan Cohen was chosen to be one of only four other people on this fragile satellite to mark that last slash on the wall with GG Allin. In his time as a Murder Junkie he saw and experienced things most human beings never will, perhaps even shouldn't. Why it was deemed that he be the one sober witness to such undreamt-of chaos must still plague him. I submit that the answer lies within the covers of this compelling memoir.

Rating: Summary: GG Worthy Review: If you are a GG Allin fan, or are merely curious about the most extreme musician ever, this book is definately worth the money. As entertaining as a piece of non-fiction gets, it includes all the depraved behaviour that one would expect from a GG tour. The book also includes a CD with some of GG's final recordings from the tour, including the last interview that GG ever gave. The easily offended should avoid this book, but any GG fan should own it. The only reason it get's four stars is due to the fact that it's a bit too short. I would've loved more detail and more material. I wanted to keep reading!
Rating: Summary: Interesting subject, awful writing Review: Not even a subject as interesting and controversial as GG Allin could make the effort of reading this worthwhile. The writing is limp, scattered and self-serving. The author spends more time describing the symptoms of the cold he caught while on tour with the Murder Junkies than he does describing their adventures or giving us insight into the personalities of the relevant characters. Reading this is a...waste of time. Buy the book, but just look at the pictures. They'll tell you as much as the author did, and you'll save yourself two hours.
Rating: Summary: Woody Allen on G.G. Allin! Review: Sure, we all know G.G. Allin was one of a kind, but so is the author of this book, Evan Cohen.Evan, with humor much like a cross between Woody Allen and Don Rickles, delivers a truely fun book that does what it sets out to do. Tell the story of the last days of a punk rock icon. Evan, through his self-deprication, and, well, just being Evan, makes this one of my favorite books, ever. Buy it. You won't regret it. And ignore those who "don't get it". If G.G. picked Evan to be his roadie - then G.G. "got it". Which he certainly did. Get this book NOW before it goes up to $200 dollars again! George Tabb Spring, 2004
Rating: Summary: The CD is better than the book! Review: The book is short, but lots of pics and plenty of described mayhem. It is a worthy read and a great collectors item for GG collectors. Plus the last GG Interview before he died is included on the cd.
