Rating: Summary: The characters were great Review: This is my first book by Ms. Garlock, but it won't be my last. She made you feel as if you were living in that time with those people. I can't want to read With Song.
Rating: Summary: First, but certainly not last! Review: This was my first Garlick book, but believe me, it will not be my last. I would have to put her up there with Nora Roberts! A beautiful story in a time when it would be very difficult to find anything beautiful. Yes, the story of the wife is very sad, but I really could not find fault with the husband, Tom. Very good summer reading!
Rating: Summary: Not my favorite but... Review: This was my least favorite of the 1930's trilogy but it was still a good read. Tom and Henry Ann were likeable characters but I was bothered by his cheating on his sick wife. I know divorce was uncommon in that time period but the woman obviously needed some medical attention. The secondary characters really made the book shine. Especially Johnny Henry who appears in the other books. There was a bit of suspense which is common in Garlock novels and that kept me reading at a fast pace. I would recommend this book and highly recommend the two that follow.

Rating: Summary: Sorry Review: This was my very first Garlock book. This book was on the list as one of the century's top 50 Romance books. If all the books on the list is this good, then I'm in store for many enjoyable hours of reading! 'With Hope' touched all my emotions: happy, sad. angry, etc. Could not put it down and will continue with the sequel 'With Song'. The characters were so true to life including Aunt Dozie......my favorite!
Rating: Summary: Bring the American Depression to a Hopeful Level Review: This was the first I'd read of Garlock. I have since read many of her "western" based novels, but prefer this triology of the Great Depression years (which has been so popular a fourth book is shortly to be published). Not much has been written about this time, and it was nice to see Garlock move into a new time on the American Frontier.
