Rating: Summary: good fast paced read Review: I am a big fan of Karen Robards but I felt like this book wasn't as good as her others. I felt like the relationship between Matt who is supposed to be 33 but is ver immature and Carly is very unbelievable. I couldn't understand why she was so in love with a guy who was a total jerk to her. I also thought that there were too many characters in this story with Matt's sisters and the deputies, and the victims, and the murder, and all the animals!! Jeez this book gave me a headache with all the different things that were going on. I think Karen Robards has written much better books like "To Trust a Stranger", "One Summer", and "Maggy's Child."
Rating: Summary: THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE!!!! Review: I am not going to get into the storyline of WHISPERS AT MIDNIGHT. It's already been said in many of the reviews here. I would rather let you know how this book made me feel. Wonderful! The dialogue between the Carly and Matt had me laughing aloud, as well as much of their silent thoughts about each other! And some of the situations were absolutely hysterical!!! This is the first book I've read by Robards that had so much humor in it. I was reading it during my son's orchestra rehearsal and tried my best not to guffaw in the auditorium ... so I sat silently reading with a foolish grin on my face! Not only did this book have great humor, but you really believed Carly and Matt had it bad for each other! There was sizzling sexual chemistry between them, hot sensual lovemaking scenes, and an evil twisted murderer who gave me the creeps, not to mention suspenseful scenes that had me on the edge of my seat! LOL ... and through it all, poor Matt was totally overwhelmed, outnumbered and surrounded by females ... 3 sisters, Carly and her friend Sandra all packed into his little house. Not to mention the adorable cat Hugo and dog Annie who also added to the smile/laugh factor. WHISPERS AT MIDNIGHT was a throughly enjoyable read!!! A definite keeper!!!
Rating: Summary: Good story, bad writing Review: I enjoyed this book but as other reviewers have commented, the writing is not up to her usual standards. The story, which is typical Karen Robards, is good and the character development great. Ocassionally I was horrified by her usage of trite phrases and slang. I'm not a literary high brow but this clearly was below even my standards. Even though it was an enjoyable read I will temporarily avoid Karen Robards writing for a while because of this book.
Rating: Summary: good fast paced read Review: I thought this book was a good read and I can't remember laughing throughout a book more than I did with this one. Yeah okay so it was a little far fetched in some respects but it delivered in everything I wanted it to. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: GOOD READ Review: I won't go into the plot description as it has been done so well in other reviews. If you are looking for a book along the lines of Linda Howard's "Mr. Perfect", which I loved for the humor, this is it. I loved Carley, loved Matt and loved the way Karen Robards used humor in developing their relationship. No, this is not a deep, serious, fact-filled romance with a lot of historical detail. It is about two people who have a history and a sense of humor about themselves and the people important to them. I am quite baffled about the reviewer's comments about the cat. I have four (three are Himmies, as is Carly's) and all are strictly indoor cats. I also have a dog, and for the life of me can't see where the implied abuse is in this book! Having watched the relationships of my animals, the cat and dog in the book behaved just like "only" children adapting to a new sibling. Don't avoid the book simply because of that one review. If you are looking for a light-hearted, character-driven, hot romance, you will enjoy this one. I rarely buy hard-cover books because of the price and because I buy so many. "Whispers at Midnight" was the right book at the right time and worth the money to me. I am NOT a fan of Karen Robards - I rarely read her books, but again, this one was worth the hard-cover price.
Rating: Summary: So annoying Review: Karen Robards delivers in this book: plenty of romance, suspense, and laugh-out-loud moments. The chemisty between Matt and Carly sizzles, and the ambiguity Matt feels over his love (and lust) for Carly great fun to read. Robards is one of my favorite authors, and I eagerly devour each book she writes.
Rating: Summary: Great Story Review: Karen Robards is an excellent contemporary romance writer. She is one of my favorites! This is another enjoyable read. Carly Linton returns to her hometown to her grandmother's home. She is going to turn the home into a bed and breakfast hotel. She brings with her, her best friend and cook , Sandra. When Carly left town she was a flat chested girl with brown curly hair. Carly returns with breast implants, blond hair and an entirely new attitude. When Carly and Sharon first arrive they think they have run into a burgler. They tackle the burgler and try to run away. After being tackled to the ground, Carly comes face to face with not a burgler, but Matt, the local sheriff. When Carly left town, she had a big crush on Matt, who at that time was the town's sexy bad boy. Carly is still pretty pissed off at Matt for taking her on one date to her prom; having sex with her and then forgetting about her. Matt on the other hand cannot believe how much Carly has changed, and the old sparks start to fly. Still, things are not quite what they seem. A murder has occurred in town, and somehow is connected to Carly. Carly and Matt will have to work together to find the killer, that is if Carly doesn't kill Matt first for dumping her all those years ago. This is a wonderful story. The characters kept me chuckling until the end. I would highly recommned.

Rating: Summary: No where near Ms. Robard's standards... Review: This book was very engaging-I will give it that, but it was just missing a mere more sophistication. The teasing sex scenes are great, but they just all lead up to what is to be a very predictable conclusion. A very light, fast read if you feel like losing yourself in a little romance and heat and don't care that your mind may actually shrink, instead of expand once the book is done.
Rating: Summary: Fast-paced and fun Review: This is one of Karen Robards better novels. She gets better with time. The romance is sweet not sticky. The dialogue is humorous and realistic. It's a great, fast-paced story, and the characters: Matt and Carly are so very likable. I especially sympathized with Matt, a womanizer saddled with two lovely sisters, and now an equally lovely and surgically enhanced ex "girl" friend. Robards writes a good story with a contemporary voice. I prefer her contemporary novels to her historical novels. Along with this book, I also recommend: Walking After Midnight, To Trust a Stranger, and Hunter's Moon.
