Rating: Summary: Colder than Ice: A Hot Must Read Review: Colder than Ice is a hot must read for any fan of romantic suspense. The story grabs you the moment you open the cover and from then on you are ensnared in the world, and unable to put it down even for a moment. This is more than a page turner, it's an on the edge of your seat thrill ride that will have you rooting for the hero and heroine, and biting your nails to the quick as the story unfolds.
The tale is actually the second part of a series, though it stands alone well. It's a much fuller read if you invest the time to check out Thicker than Water, the first book in the series. It's an equally worthy read and guaranteed to satisfy.
The heroine is a sympathetic fighter who is plagued by a tortured past, and haunted by a villain so vile and so devious, he'll make you break out into a cold sweat. Enter the hero with a closet full of skeletons, a hidden agenda, and a tie to the heroine's hellish past that has him on the brink of his own personal destruction. The heroine decides to stop running, and a small Vermont town becomes ground zero for a phenomenal end game with the ultimate stakes of life, death, love and redemption.
The relationship between the hero and heroine develops in a believable way, and the connection between the two scorches the page. The villain in particular is not the garden variety threat so common these days in romantic suspense. He is powerful and charismatic, intelligent, and crafty. His intentions are guided in a unique way, and there are parts of him that a normal person can relate to, making him all the more dangerous. Secondary supportive characters are fully fleshed out and integral to the plot, yet never overshadow the true story.
This is a complex, emotional book that plays out themes of love and madness, guilt and redemption. If you're only reading one book this year, Colder than Ice should be that book. Me, I'd suggest you be daring, and invest in Thicker than Water as well. You won't be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: Bad Story, not worth picking up even from a Library Review: I found this book very boring, I read about 150 pages and then skipped to the end, here was a woman who didn't trust men, but then believed all these stupid excuses the hero of the book gave her, come on.
I wasn't even interested enough to find out the end which is very unusual for me. I'm sorry I wasted my money buying it.
Rating: Summary: I hated the heroine................ Review: I love Maggie Shayne's books and she is so great at developing characters and making the sparks fly! These two had no sparks. The main characters were uninteresting and unlikable and I had a difiicult time finishing the book. The bad guy is just over the top dumb and the whole plot is unbelievable.
This is amazing because Maggie Shayne makes Vampires and witches seem perfectly normal, so to read about two actual people and not have it be believable is crazy!
Rating: Summary: Did not grip me.... Review: I never got into this book at all. The characters felt pretty superficial and not written out very well. I usually love Maggie Shaynes books but this one left me "colder than ice". I could not fathom how the hero and heroine fell in love with each other. The hero lied all the time and yet she fell in love with him knowing that he had a 'dark' secret. Nope, too far-fetched and the suspense wasn't exactly killing me either. Yawn.
Rating: Summary: Repeat of a Former Book Review: Take Shayne's book Thicker Than Water and swap out the characters with Beth and Josh from Colder Than Ice, and you have the same book. What I didn't know was that Colder Than Ice is a continuation of Thicker Than Water and brings back Beth Slocum, her daughter Dawn, and the religious zealot, Mordecai. The story was like reading Thicker Than Water all over again, except with less interesting characters. Basically, after shooting Mordecai last time, Beth has been relocated to a small town where - (surprise!) - Mordecai finds her and her lover, Joshua Kendall. The characters were dull, the story was flat, the romance was forced, and the book was uninteresting at best. These characters, and the story itself, didn't need to be revisited. Not recommended.
Rating: Summary: action-packed suspense thriller Review: The government raids the Young Believers compound to get to its leader Mordecai Young. During the chaos that ensues, Elizabeth Marcum known as Beth Slocum inside the encampment takes a bullet. Fed Joshua Kendall believes he fired the shot that killed her. Mordecai survives the onslaught of the bungled assault.
Joshua spends the next seventeen years living in remorse and guilt over Beth's death. However unbeknownst to the haunted Josh, Beth is alive and currently in hiding in Vermont. Mordecai is coming to complete the circle by killing this cult survivor. Josh comes to Vermont to protect Beth, only to realize the woman who haunted his nights with her death is alive and well at least for now. He willingly would die to keep her safe knowing that the monstrous cult leader is coming.
Mordecai is so realistically evil that he takes this action-packed suspense thriller to new levels of excitement that will have readers holding onto the arms of their chair. Beth is a solid heroine who is tired of running while Josh is a terrific champion realizing he has a second chance to keep Beth safe. Though more thriller than romance as Josh keeps Beth's wellbeing above his personal needs, she forces the issue of their attraction. As with the first of the Young Believers trilogy (see THICKER THAN WATER) COLDER THAN ICE is a strong superb "High Noon" like tale with the deranged villain methodically going after the good guys.

Rating: Summary: Was not a tension packed read. Review: This was and will be the last book I read from this author. I'm was really getting frustrated getting to the end of the story.
