Summary: Another page-turner from O'Brien
Review: Definitely a page-turner! I ate this one up. WATCH THEM DIE isn't just another predictable thriller. From the first page, O'Brien weaves the reader through the highs and lows of mounting tension. O'Brien's always-original plot angles leave me wondering, how does he think up this stuff?

In addition to a careful and well-paced plot, the sensitive character development makes you not only care about these people and their fate but also form a strong connection with them. You may hate or love them but you'll definitely identify with them, at some level. Not only complex in nature, the characters run the gamut of diversity.

I appreciate the clever and perceptive way each scene is revealed, drawing you into the environment and placing you right in the moment. Mounting tension and nerve-shattering twists and turns are tempered with O'Brien injected wit and humor which makes this a well balanced novel.

If you're a movie buff, you'll appreciate unique references and parallels to a handful of film classics. A filmography is also thoughtfully provided.

Review: I was the copy editor for "Watch Them Die." Imagine my distress at being singled out as the one who marred your enjoyment of the book, William. I enjoyed working on the book, thought it was well written, compelling, and inventive, and gave its editing a lot of time and care. Ah, well.

Review: Kevin had done it again. A very good read as have been his other books. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a hard to put down book. Can't wait for his next book to be available.

Summary: Above Average Thriller
Review: SUMMARY: Hannah Doyle is an abused wife on the run with her four year old son, who has settled in Seattle for the time being. Everything is going well; Hannah, a film buff, has a job at a video store which she loves, attends a film class at the local community college, and has the unconditional love of her precocious son, Guy. Soon, Hannah becomes the object of affection for three different men, all of whom, she realizes, are following her. While worrying that her husband has found her at last, she begins receiving videos of old movies cued to notorious murder scenes; soon, people Hannah knows, even if only tangentially, start dying in exactly the manner of the movies. This killer has decided Hannah will be his next leading lady. Who can she trust?

WHY YOU'LL LIKE IT: Wonderful characterization; you come to know and care about these characters, particularly Hannah and her son. The action sequences are taut and well-told, and the suspense is kept at a breakneck pace. The plot is original and terrifying. Genuine surprises frequently abound.

WHY YOU WON'T: Too many chefs spoil the soup, and in this case, too many stalkers spoil the story. It can be difficult to keep up with who is who in this novel frought with a plethora of characters. Some plot devices are overly contrived, and seem to make the work longer than in needs to be.

BOTTOM LINE: Above average thriller from a writer who knows how to tell a good, and horrifying, story. Definitely recommend.

Summary: HOME RUN
Review: This book should be illegal. This book is so addictive and engrossing, Kevin O'Brien should be locked up. A few spelling errors aside, (but that's the copy editor's fault), I found myself finishing it in three days. Not as creepy and dark as "Make Them Cry", but clever nonetheless. My only problem is the number of coincidences and leaps of logic towards the end, and one mistake... characters shooting on video talk about using a higher speed film - video cameras don't use film! But this novel is still a keeper and I look forward to Kevin's next thrill-ride.

Review: This book was great. The author has great ideas that he puts into great description in the book. It is all about a woman with a young boy that is plagued by a serial killer that sends her video tapes of how he will kill them. All the clips are from famous movies suck as THe Godfather and Rosemary's Baby. Then you find out that she is being chased by her abusive husband. The book is all about murderers and stalkers and mixed identities. I liked it.

Summary: Brilliant Pacing
Review: This is the second book I have read by Kevin O'Brien. The first one (The Next To Die) was so good, I bought this one which is his latest release. This story covers characters from all walks of life, professors to video store employees to film makers to artists.

The main character already has problems because she is on the run with her 4 year old son from her highly abusive husband. She can't divorce because her husband comes from a powerful and wealthy family. Now she is viewing murder victims on video tapes and she dosen't know who to trust and what to do. I totally empathize with this lady because of the estangement issue as well as her being the stalked and chosen witness. I won't say anymore about the story itself, because I think everyone should read it.

I also like the references to all the old movie classics. All these movies are my old favorites. It was a trip down memory lane for me. I knew right away that Kevin O'Brien did all his homework. He had all the scenes down to the last detail. Also Kevin O'Brien knows how video store employees get treated and what goes on in the back office. I could tell since I used to work in a video store way back when. Also Kevin O'Brien has the courtesy to acknowledge all the movies at the end of the book.

This book is a definite page turner and stay up allnighter. There are a lot of twists and turns. Just like the last book I read by this same author, there are a lot of characters and not only the plot stays solid, but it thickens. Some suspense writers use a lot of characters and then they can't keep the reader's attention because of this. With Kevin O'Brien, it is different, he keeps the readers glued to the book. I see a very talented suspense writer that I hope will write for many years to come.
