Summary: thank god for amazon
Review: I am not like other fanboys who paid attention to things like ghost authors so I was not aware that there was a new Destroyer ghost author, I just knew the books have gotten very bad. To give you an idea of the kind of addict I was, I used to camp out at a book store every three months for the new book. I read the Destroyer every issue but I have been wondering what has happened to the Destroyer series lately. Remo and Chuin with pirates? Where was Johnny Depp? Come on! That issue was bad and this one is too. In this one the humor is bad. I can usually laugh out loud reading a Destroyer but there were not any of these "moments" for me. The characters that I have gotten used to do not sound like themselves any longer. I am glad another reviewer mentioned it too because I was afriad it was just me. I will hope for the best for this series. If we stuck with this new ghost author for the for seeable future, I will check back at amazon to see if that changes. Maybe Warren Murphy will come back to write the books? That is a fanboy's dream come true!

Summary: Not really a Destroyer at all
Review: I couldn't believe someone gave this a 5 star review until I saw he had only read 3 books in the series. Anyone who has read them all through the years would have to be disappointed in this adventure. The plot and action are ok but the characters are still off the mark. This is an improvement over the new author's previous attempt and hopefully he will continue to improve. If not there are going to be many long time readers who may become former readers.

Summary: What are people smoking?
Review: I don't get it. I keep reading reviews of this new author's work which feel his characterization of the dynamic between Remo and Chiun as "off." I will agree that in the first book, "Bloody Tourists," their sparring was a bit ... sharper ... than usual, but in my opinion this has been corrected. Someone was saying the respect Remo has had for Chiun has been lost ... I'd like to know which version of the Destroyer books he's been reading, because the Remo I know has been irritated with Chiun since day one. True, they do have that father-son dynamic, but it's in these books as well, palin as day. The repartee between them has always been like that of an old married couple, and it holds true in these newer books as well. I've not read all 137 books in the Destroyer series, but I've certainly read more than three. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 or 30, scattered throughout the various authors, from Murphy and Sapir to Murray to Mullaney and now Somheil. Different strokes for different folks, I guess ... but this is one reviewer who is quite happy with the direction in which the series seems to be headed. Every writer has his own voice to imprint on a series, to put his own mark on it; if the writing were just a carbon-copy of Murphy and Sapir, the series would quickly go flat and stale. Somheil's Destroyer does seem, to me, a bit more gritty--dare I say dark?--than previous incarnations, but I, for one, find it refreshing.

Summary: Still Missing The Mark!!
Review: The new writer is progessing, his book 2 is a few inches better than the first. The tone is still way off.Mainly because of the interaction between Remo and Chiun.Their father/son dynamic is what has elevated the novels above and beyond all the others that are on the market..It has been shattered by this writer..again Remo treats his "little father" like garbage.."Shut up,Chiun".."I'm stronger than you Chiun"..Total disrespect..It throws the rest of the book way off when the core characters are so jumbled..But hope springs eternal..The series has survived bad writers but no series survives many...
Pray for #137...

Summary: I loved it!
Review: This book is a great read. I only have three of this series,#71,#135,and this one.The dynamics between Remo and Chiun are much the same in all three, with some slight evolutions that are normal in every relationship. But first and foremost this is just a fun book.
