Rating: Summary: The Rhythm of Storytelling Review: Christine Spindler has woven an enticing web of mystery, adultery, deceit, love, and hate out of provocative words, enticing locales, complex characters, and deep emotion. I definitely recommend this to anyone, especially those people who may not like mysteries, because this isn't your typical mystery.I'm eagerly looking forward to the next Inspector Terry mystery!
Rating: Summary: A great debut! Review: Christine Spindler's introduction of British Inspector Terry is well done. The Rhythm of Revenge is a smooth read. The conversation and atmosphere will fascinate you through the first seventy pages. Then the mystery will hold you in place until it's solved and lives go on. The dancing troupe at The Caesar is putting on a show, "The Taming of the Shoe." In working together, their lives have become dangerously intermingled. Jessica is obsessed with dancing; her husband and ex-lover are obsessed with her. Alan is divorced and free to live the unusual life style he prefers. Eileen, his ex-wife is crippled by a fire another member could have prevented, and there's Susan who has yet to find out the secrets everyone else knows. The investigators, Inspector Terry and Detective Sergeant Blockley, are brought in when Roger, Jessica's husband, tells the police she is missing. This is definitely one of those stories that remind us, you can't trust anyone. Christine Spindler's introduction of Inspector Terry to the mystery genre seemed low-keyed to me, and that's a good thing. She gives us just enough knowledge about DI Terry, his work, and his private life without it overwhelming the mystery; in fact it blends in quite well. Again, the atmosphere is great. The characters are splendid; they are beyond a doubt as realistic as characters can get with their passions, obsessions and faults.
Rating: Summary: riveting Review: I could not put this book down. I thought it was a psychological thriller with wonderful characters and a plot that engaged me from the begining. I found all the characters to be ones I wanted to read more about. In the beginning I, also, found Jessica to be unlikeable and hard to care about, but as time went by, it was easier to care for/about her. I thought Inspector Rick Terry to be a sensitve and smart man and I look forward to further books by him.
Rating: Summary: An Engaging New DI Review: I usually just sit down and write a paragraph or so about the book I have just finished. This one is harder to categorize, and a summary will not do justice to the complex characters. A dancer disappears and Inspector Terry and his men have to find her or her body. Christine Spindler's THE RHYTHM OF REVENGE is a truly remarkable first novel. Jessica Warner, premier danseuse of a London dance company, star of "The Taming of the Shoe" disappears just before opening night, and DI Terry and his men must find her. Sounds like many other books, but it's not. Spindler's characters are all twisted, in one way or another. And the dance company is a tap dance troupe, not a ballet company. And the production is a hard rock version of a Shakespearian classic. If you are looking for a sense of place, it's really not there. The characters live and work in an almost claustrophobic arena that could almost be anywhere in the world. But it's their own, unique world.
Rating: Summary: A fresh new voice in mystery Review: If anyone in London loves to dance more than Jessica Warner does, people would say they are obsessed or perhaps possessed. To Jessica, to dance is live. Her passion to dance supersedes any feelings towards her spouse (Roger) and her former lover and current choreographer (the married David Powell). Currently, Jessica rehearses for her role in the Caesar Dance Theater production of "The Taming of the Shoe". However, before opening night, Jessica vanishes. Detective Inspector Frederick Terry begins to investigate what happened to the dancer. He quickly concludes everyone wants something from Jessica. While Terry continues to look into her past, Jessica is shackled to a bed. Depressed, she fears only that she may never dance again even as her kidnaper dives her deeper into insanity. THE RHYTHM OF REVENGE is a taut character-driven thriller that gets inside the minds of the lead characters and several support players. The fast-paced story line is filled with non-stop suspense. However, this novel is a character tale as the audience sees and feels the impact of Jessica's obsession on everyone that she touches. Christine Spindler provides the audience with a powerful psychological drama that will leave readers avidly awaiting her next tale. Harriet Klausner

Rating: Summary: High drama and intrigue. Review: The Rhythm Of Revenge is alive with characters who literally leap off the page and speak to you. When Jessica Warner, the star attraction of a London-based tap-dance troupe, disappears shortly before the premiere of their big production, Inspector Terry is called in to investigate. Suspense mounts as Jessica's husband, friends, ex-lovers, their jealous wives and fellow cast members reveal their true feelings as Terry puts them under scrutiny one by one. Christine Spindler has orchestrated a magnificent production of her own with this novel. The setting is well-conceived, the plot is convincing and the layers of deception and secrecy are complex and intense. I recommend this novel to anyone who wants a read that will capture their attention from beginning to end.

When Jessica Warner disappears shortly beforethe big premiere of the London-based tap-dance troupe, Inspector Terry is called in to investigate. Rating: Summary: An astonishingly good first novel Review: What an exciting find, a brand-new author, and one who writes well. Christine Spindler has created an intriguing cast of characters; although her supposed lead is the least-fleshed-out of them, he will be back in future stories, and likely we'll learn more about him. What we know now is fascinating and, pardon the pun, novel. There were a few editing flaws, including the misuse of "laying" for "lying," but very few. I loved this book, and highly recommend it to everyone, especially mystery or police procedural stories, and perhaps most especially to anyone interested in theatre.
Rating: Summary: Highly recommended Review: When a beautiful dancer disappears, everyone becomes suspect. The reader follows along, incredulous, as Jessica spends days manicled to a bed in her parent's abandoned house, and suffers with her the fear of losing the gift of life in the dance. For without the ability to dance, Jessica has no life. The evolution of this character in contrast to the diminishing sanity of her captor keeps the reader on edge until the last page. The complex characters and their relationships are well designed, especially the thin line between insanely obsessive and normalacy. Christine Spindler draws her characters with the lyrical fine line of an artist, vividly creating each in the mind of the reader. Jessica, the woman who will sacrfice anything for the dance. Roger, her wealthy husband, who wishes only for his love to be returned. David, her former lover, who obsessively continues to try to win her back, despite the pain to his wife. Susan, the pitiful wretch who can't live for herself. Eileen, the scarred beauty who makes one still believe in saints and miracles. Simon, womanizer and physical therapist, with the heart of gold. And detective Terry, a masterful blend of the looks of Alan Rickman and all the mannerisms of a gay Columbo, who solves his cases with a gift of advertising. THE RYTHEM OF REVENGE presents a suspenseful tale filled with non-stop action that kept my attention throughout the novel. This is an excellent read for fans of psychological drama and mystery, and highly recommmended. I can't wait to read her next, FACES OF FEAR.
