Rating: Summary: ...wow.... Review: ...Yeah, I went into this knowing that it wouldn't be that great, and I wasn't all that disappointed. It was easy to read, and it certainly was a shocker at the end. I read it in maybe... 3 days. so, at least I didn't waste all of my time on this piece of fluff. I suppose I felt as if I were reading a children's book that was a bit more edgy... I don't know. I guess what gave me that feeling was the parts where you get to see into the mind of the killer, or whatever. It was just funny. He freaks out, at one point, and thinks some girl's hair is out to get him. He kind of reminds me of this really old creepy guy who stalks me on the internet.
All in all, it wasn't HORRIBLE, but it wasn't good, either. I thought it was cheesy, but at least it was a fast read.
So, RL Stine, go back to writing kiddie books.
Rating: Summary: A fun, entertaining suspense! Review: Having loved R.L. Stine's Goosebumps series when I was a kid and enjoyed his foray into adult suspense with The Sitter, I looked forward to reading Eye Candy, Stine's newest adult effort. Eye Candy is a suspenseful thriller about a beautiful twenty-something New Yorker's search for Mr. Right gone awry. After she lost her boyfriend to a car wreck a year ago, Lindy Sampson is ready to date again. One of her roommates suggests placing an ad at the online personals. There she meets various potential suitors and proceeds to go out on dates with them and has a great time. But then the fun stops when she starts receiving frightening phone calls and letters telling her he'd kill her if she stops seeing him. She doesn't know who is making the threats, so she accepts the dates from the four men she is seeing. However, Lindy hadn't envisaged the sinister and dangerous game behind the threats...
This is one of the most fun and fast-paced thrillers I have read. It kept my interest from beginning to end and the twists and turns kept me guessing till the final pages. The conclusion is indeed surprising, albeit silly. Lindy does get lots of attention for being an "eye candy," but her stupidity frustrated me at times. She was terrified of her unknown stalker, yet she did nothing to conceal her personal information or keep away from potential danger. And I couldn't help but notice that this novel's language is not unlike Stine's young adult offerings. The author plays it safe by making the characters a bit over the age of twenty-one. He should perhaps write main characters that are much older to see if he can in fact write adult fiction. All in all, this is an entertaining thriller that is not unlike the slasher movies that are so popular out there. The plot is a bit cleverer than most horror flicks though, but that doesn't say much, does it? I recommend Eye Candy as an entertaining novel, but don't expect this to be in any way thought provoking. Then again, you shouldn't expect a literary read when you pick up this sort of book to begin with. Read it if you're in the bargain for horror lite.
Rating: Summary: When Fear Street Grows Up Review: I picked up my first R. L. Stine book in 1993 when i was eleven or twelve. I was either too old or too wise to enjoy Goosebumps so this one was a Fear Street book (The Stepsister i believe). After that, i was hooked. Notsomuch on R. L. Stine (although i still have ALL the Fear Street books in the series), but i was hooked on reading with current aspirations of having my own personal library in my home someday.
R. L. Stine ended the Fear Street series in 1999 and I guess u could say we ended our writer-to-reader relationship. During this time and currentlyi read a lot to James Patterson, Jeffrey Deaver, David Morrel, Stephen King and other ADULT mystery/horror novels. Somehow i happened to catch EYE CANDY last week, read a few chapters in the bookstore as if interviewing the book, then purchased.
Now, after reading it, i feel like the book read as easily as a Young Adult Fear Street book from ten years ago. Although the pages were filled with the language, the sex, the drinking, and the Starbucks of any ADULT novel, this one i wouldnt shelve along with the others. It had the same voice of any other all-American typical teenage girl that the Fear Street books mostly had. Except EYE CANDY was intended for adults with a "gimme-a-break" ending.
Maybe i'm being too critical, but i think Eye Candy belongs on the same shelf with the dust-covered and withering Fear Street series. But i do hope R. L. Stine's new children series "Mostly Ghostly" is as successful as every other children's book he puts his name on. Giving children a quick thrill is something Stine should stick to and leave the adult novels alone.
Rating: Summary: STAY AWAY FROM THIS LOSER Review: If I could have given this a negative, I would have said -5. How anyone could say that this is a thriller and that they could not put it down is brain damaged. The writing was absolutely high school, the characters shallow, the plot stupid and the dialogue boring. If anyone wants my copy, send me $2 and I will gladly mail it to you.
Rating: Summary: EYE CANDY! Review: It was a very good book it kept me guessing till the very end. A very good book from R.L. Stine.
A real page turner, hard to put down
Rating: Summary: An exciting and fun read. Review: New Yorker, Lindy Sampson is a beautiful twenty-three-year-old dealing with the death of her boyfriend. After a year of mourning her boyfriend, Lindy is urged by friends to start dating again, but Lindy never has luck meeting anyone. Lindy's roommate gets the idea to sign her up for computer dating and lines her up three dates.
First, there is Jack the bland and boring, but nice guy. Then, there is Brad, loud, sexist and a little too forceful. And there is Colin, the good-looking, intelligent and nice guy, the guy that Lindy really hits it off with. Finally, there is Shelly, the guy Lindy meets by accident.
Lindy realizes she has feelings for Colin, but might have feelings for Shelly, so she decides to just see these two guys. However, Jack doesn't seem to get the hint and continues to call and then Lindy gets an email saying "Don't say no. Keep going out with me. I'll mess you up if you ever say no." The police can't provide too much help with the threat, so Lindy decides to continue seeing all the guys and try to figure out which one could be a psycho, but a violent act on her roommate forces her to run for her life and question everything she thought she knew about everyone...because what she doesn't know will kill her.
`Eye Candy' is a can't-put-it-down read that will be finished in one sitting. I was drawn into this exciting thriller from page one and never once did the suspense stop. The gripping plot is exciting and thrilling, and doesn't drift into other directions.
R.L. Stine has written another, after `The Sitter,' chilling novel that is pure enjoyment. Stine keeps the story focused and the shocks coming until the novel reaches its surprising climax. Anyone looking for a fun read to kill a few hours should definitely pick this up, it's a winner.
A MUST read!
