Rating: Summary: This Treasure was Hard to Measure Review: The beginning of the book immediately caught me because it went right into the story without explaining anything, which made me want to read and find out. I think that it one of Cusslers main strong points is making you want to read more and that makes it a good book.
The first pages of the book talk about Romans and a small portion of a background about the city of Alexandria. To understand the rest of the book you must read this, it was very wise for Clive to incorporate that into the beginning of the story.
This book is also interesting because it alternates between the government in one chapter and Dirk Pitt in the other, so you have to read one whole chapter that is almost irrelevant to the other in order to find out what happens in the one chapter.
The main character in this story is of course Dirk Pitt, a handsome, smart, witty, and caring man who is good with the ladies. For instance when Dirk and his team of archaeologists rescue people from a freezing plane, Pitt asks two of them if they would have dinner with him. Of course he didn't ask them in front of each other, but they would both eventually have dinner.
Then there is Lily, she was found on the frozen plane, and now helps Dirk and his colleague with there studies. Dirk eventually falls in love with her, but you will have to read the whole thing.
Then there is Giordino, who is Dirks coworker in the archaeological study on the ship Polar Explorer.
I think you might be able to predict the end of the story, but not up to the level that Cussler has made it, only because it is your average case of good versus evil.
I thought it was a very good book, seeing as how I don't like most other books.
So read the book and see what you think.
(This was definately a treasure that was hard to measure.)
Rating: Summary: Clive at his best Review: as usual my favorite heros Dirk, and Al have taken us around the world and have saved the day. this book was quite the page turner. I could barely put it down ( i did get a sunburn from forgetting to turn over while reading this book):o)Kudos to Cussler!
Rating: Summary: Another Great Dirk Pitt Novel Review: I have recently just started reading Clive Cussler's series of books about Dirk Pitt and his adventures. This is about the 5th book I've read in the series and I have loved every book so far, and this book is no exception. Treasure includes everything you would expect from a Dirk Pitt novel; action, suspense, mystery and comedy. I loved all of the action and suspense, which was on almost every page of the book, plus I was able to laugh at the jokes and humor in the book. It kept me reading the book for hours at a time, never able to put it down. If I had to pick out the worst points in the book, I would choose the parts that had to do with politics. I found those parts to really bore me. I would rather read more about Dirk Pitt and his adventures than about politicians in Washington having a meeting. But those parts only do show up a few times in the book so it's not too bad. Overall Treasure was exciting and like most of Clive Cussler's books, was a great read. Now on to the next Dirk Pitt adventure!
Rating: Summary: Still brilliant Review: I picked this up again on a second-hand book shelf in a local hospital having read it when it first came out. Fourteen years later it hasn't lost any of its appeal. Brilliantly narrated with quick precise action, the James Bond-esqe 'joie de vivre' and panache of Dirk Pitt means he is the modern Indiana Jones. The plot weaves as intricately as ever from the Roman galleys in Tunisia to modern day Mexico without any let up. The formula is the same as ever, the results we already know but it's how Cussler delivers his hero's victory against the odds with his faithful sidekick and NUMA friends that makes these still readable after all this time
Rating: Summary: Blah, blah, blah.... Review: My father reccommended this book to me...that should have been my first clue. I will give Mr. Cussler credit for the story's premise and the little effort put into research. However, I could not suppress my urge to regurgitate at the absurdity of Dirk Pitt...the infallible, the delectible, the inscrutible...the ridiculous! I think Clive Cussler is better suited to writing comic books for the prepubescent. Gag.
Rating: Summary: A Great Pitt Book Review: One of the best Pitt books ever. You won't be able to put it down. This is one of those books you say you'll put down....after the next page. Cussler has written a great novel once again. Dirk Pitt is very James Bond like.
Rating: Summary: Who needs Indiana Jones? Review: This incredible book although over a decade old cannot be beaten for its wonderfull story, diverse locations and incredible tension. The book reads something between The A-Team, Indiana Jones and James Bond. The characters are perfect and the book just is not long enough. This is still Cussler's best novel.
Rating: Summary: This shoud be the Movie Review: This was my favorite! This shopudl be the movie, not that I'm against Sahara, it was good too, but I got such vivid visuals from this book I thought it would make a great movie.
Rating: Summary: A classic adventure- Review: Treasure is a classic, a great book to start the novice Clive Cussler reader. The hero, Dirk Pitt is the quintessental righter of wrongs. He's James Bond, Indiana Jones and MacGyver all rolled into one, with a great sidekick in Al Giordano. The tongue in cheek humor between the two men make them rivel the greatest comedic teams in history. But when the situation calls for it, they're all business. I have all the Dirk Pitt books and this is one of my favorites. You'll love it.
Rating: Summary: One of the greatest Dirk Pitt books ever Review: Tresure sure delivers the best of Dr. Cussler - it's got a wonderful story, a RICH one, tons of action and cunning both from Pitt and the villains, and the pressure mounts up tremendously until the final pages! This is my favourite Dirk Pitt book - sharing the #1 spot with Raise the Titanic and Vixen 03.
