Review: I read this book, and loved it - I recommend it to anyone wanting an absorbing, sexy story to lose themselves in. I found myself quickly turning every page, to find out what happened in Julia's world. Interestingly, the Amazon.com review above wonderfully illustrates the thought processes of the male protagnonist in "Lip Service": so threatened by his wife's burgeoning independence, he tries ever harder to control her. The review above shows, yet again, just how easily the spirited, vibrant voice of an independent woman can cause fits of apoplexy. M.J. Rose, I hope you keep on making waves!

Review: Looking for an intelligent, modern-day love story with some steamy, summer sizzle? If the answer is yes, M.J. Rose's "Lip Service" could be the book for you. Using modern-day New York as her backdrop, Rose invites us into the life of devoted wife and dutiful daughter Julia Sterling, and her sterile and controlling psychiatrist husband, Paul. The story begins as Julia, acting the part of trophy-wife for her husband's business dinner, meets Sam Butterfield, founder of the Butterfield Institute, a "progressive sex clinic." Encouraged by Sam, but against the wishes of her overprotective husband, Julia agrees to write a book about the institute. Through her research, she struggles with the emotionally fragile label that has been thrust upon her by her father and husband, and the new awakening she experiences through her job as a phone sex therapist. With plenty of suspense and intrigue, Rose entices us into Julia's psyche. As the story progresses, we realize just how much Julia has put her life on hold; not allowing herself to question what her husband tells her, nor allowing her true feelings to surface. But it is not until Julia is faced with making significant decisions about her future, that we really realize the significance of her newly found self-awareness. Definitely a page-turner, this book is the perfect cure for the mid-summer blahs. With just enough erotica to be piquant, but not enough to be pornographic, "Lip Service" is one of those books that you'll be sure to pass on to your best friend.

Summary: An erotic blend of fiction and a woman's self discovery!
Review: MJ Rose commanded my attention from the first page. Since reading "Topping From Below" I've waited for an erotic thriller to be this captivating. True to our sensual natures, "Lip Service" takes you, as a reader, on a moral see-saw ride. The crowning glory is the sincerity of emotions that rise to the top of each chapter and become a catalyst for Julia making decisions. Each page showed me a woman whose strongest critic was herself, but I felt there would come a moment when she would also be her strongest support. I always felt Julia to be filled with strength, yet her passion brought out the softest woman. You'll find it difficult with all the twists and turns to predict the outcome and impact on each distinctive character. This book seems to be written for women. I wish every man I know would read and understand it. Women will find much of themselves in "Lip Service", but be prepared to lose yourself in it as well! I treasure my copy! I hope MJ Rose will continue to give us many more erotic thrillers!

Review: Lip Service is a book that will make every woman think twice about how satisfying her own marriage really is. From the outside, Julia appeared to have everything she could possibly want in life, including a handsome husband who really cared for her--or thought he did. But what did she really want from her marriage? When Julia began to research a book about other people's sexual yearnings, she started to think seriously her own wants and needs. Lip Service is a sexually frank look at marriage, but the book makes it clear that there is a lot more to marriage than sex.

Review: You must read this book, but don't start it when you have anything else you have to do. You won't be able to put "Lip Service" down until you've read every word. I read it in one sitting because I couldn't rest until I knew what would happen to Julia. Would she be safe? What would happen between Julia and Jack? M.J. Rose takes us on a wild ride and tells an amazing story. The characters are intriguing, the phone sex is hot, and the plot is gripping. I can't wait to read more from her. Write faster, M.J. Rose!

Summary: Fast, intelligent, erotic read
Review: I am generally disappointed in most of the "women's" erotica I've either stumbled across or sought. Where, I wonder, are women who can write thoughtfully about sex, weaving earthiness and sensuality into an actual storyline? M.J. Rose to the rescue. This book is definitely hot, and will hook you right away. I felt completely absorbed in the world created in the book, and I just love when that happens with fiction. I did find the character of the husband to be way too one-dimensional and not at all sympathetic. There must have been some reason the woman in this story stayed with her husband, but I sure didn't get that from the text. Good erotica is fun, and I recommend this book to women looking for a dreamy escape.

Summary: One of the best books I've read in a long time.
Review: Lip Service is*not* your typical romance, but the story of woman coming to terms with who she was and where she wanted to go. It's more of a roadmap of a sometimes-rough journey to independence, of gaining strength to be the person *she* wanted to be and not the one other people told her she was. (In fact, there were several occasions I'd have loved to wring the husband's wretched neck!) It was a romance of sorts, though. As I read of Julia's re-awakened desire for Jack, I wanted to cheer her on, wanted to caution her not to fall back into the clutches of her husband. At the end, I nearly felt like crying with joy for her, for I knew without a doubt, that she was going to be OK. The characters and plot were so real, so complex, so plausible, it was easy to believe they could have been real people in a real life situation. I'm hoping to read more from MJ Rose in the very near future.

Review: MJ Rose's attention to detail makes her first novel shine and there's little doubt that we'll be seeing much more from this extremely talented writer. The reader can feel, smell, see, and touch through Julia Sterling... and quickly get wrapped into caring for this sheltered woman as she finally fights for her rightful and long overdue independence. There's steamy 'word' sex, and the book isn't for prudes. That's the bad part. The book most certainly is for women (and men) who enjoy their sensual selves and reading good erotica. That's the good part. Set the stage for maximum sensual pleasure when you read Lip Service: soft music, good wine in your best crystal, a lengthy bubble bath. If you dare, read Lip Service to your lover. You'll both enjoy the results.
