Rating: Summary: Not her best but still enjoyable Review: I was very excited that Jude was writing another contemporary book. Sweet Liar was my favorite Jude Deveraux book. I enjoyed reading High Tide but it wasn't her best. I felt like she was told to cut 50 pages from the book and she took one page out of every 20. I kept looking back a page to see if I turned more than one page. If you love the Montgomeries and Jude's books you will still find High Tide an enjoyable read but you might want to wait for the paperback.
Rating: Summary: hilarious entertainment at it's best Review: I love a good story and this is. No true to life adventure but pure escapism and romance to boot. I put the book down after a marathon read and thought, "darling". If I want to read a factual, easy to follow story, there's always the newspapers? (I can't believe I wrote that)! Colorful characters, lots of action, this book is everything but a disappointment.
Rating: Summary: Ok, but NOT one of Deveraux's best! Review: High Tide is ok, better than the last two books. But there were still some inconsistencies that were found in others. In the first chapter the heroines' eyes are referred to as green, yet towards the end of the book, they are referred to as 'dark'. However, to be fair, it kept me occupied for a day, while home sick. Also, I think it is unrealistic of people to demand a great story from an author every book, this one is certainly better than the last two. But it is no Knight in Shining Armor!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Jude's back in fine form with this one. Review: To tell you the truth, I wasn't expecting to like this novel. I've been a Deveraux fan for years, but in my opinion she hasn't had a really good novel since "Sweet Liar". However, Ms Deveraux is back in her stride with this one. Pick this one up!
Rating: Summary: Give This one a BIG MISS!!! Review: The Taggert and Montgomery families have proven great story lines for Jude Devereaux. Unfortunately, in this offering, the author has lost her focus. Neither Ace the hero nor his female counterpart are worth reading about. They hate each other on sight and it isn't sexual tension..it's just plain hate!! The story rambles from Ace's obsession with a bird sanctuary, to having his female counterpart learn her father was some kind of underworld character. She thought he was a map maker..in this day and age of global positioning?? I read the book hoping it would get better and it got worse. I hope this author won't waste these good family names again on an unworthy story. Give this one a BIG MISS...even in paperback.
Rating: Summary: Great action and adventure Review: Jude Deveraux's High Tide is a must-read for Devearux fans. It has some edgy suspense & action scenes, but we never lose sight of the characters or the sense of romance familiar to Devearux/Montgomery fans. Many romance writers have turned their romances into edgier suspense/mysteries. Jude tries to do this, but High Tide has her characteristic humor and sense of character readers have loved over the years. High Tide is primarily a romance with the action suspense used as the vehicle for their meeting and the plot. She has returned to the beloved Montgomery & Taggert families, but does not use them to big advantage, as in past books. Some Deveraux fans will not like this book because it is a bit of a departure from her past over -the-top humor & love. I admire an author who can continue to change and grow over the years. I enjoyed this book a lot. I did not give it top stars because I thought the story started to drag and pull apart a bit as they were nearing the end of their adventurea and wound up in the Florida retirement village. I did not see the point in that. This portion of the book did not match the rest in plotting or characterization. We meet a couple of characters who were not fully explained or thought out. All of this said, this is a worthwhile book for Devearux fans to read. It kept my attention for seveal hours.
Rating: Summary: Exciting, but a little dissapointing Review: "High Tide" is certainly not Jude Deveraux's best. It was a good read and an adventurous book, but it was a little hard to believe. Towards the middle I found myself wondering if this was actually one of Deveraux's books. I had just finished "Sweet Liar" when I started reading this one, and I was halfway dissapointed. Fiona Burkenhalter is the famous designer of a hot new toy which has put the company she works for on the market. She is a true New Yorker, born and bred, and is more than a little upset when her boss sends her off to Florida on a fishing trip to handle an account with an old man who created a hit local TV show. The worst day of her life became even worse when she is arrested for smashing a life-like mechanical alligator, and meets the handsome Ace Montgomery. Fiona and Ace can't stand each other, especially when she finds out that he is to go on the fishing trip with her! When the old man is killed, she and Ace find themselves charged with murder! As they run from the law, she finds herself succumbing to Ace's famous Montgomery charm. They hide in everything from an old, musty cabin, to a 5 star hotel, to a retirement community. Following the trails of her favorite childhood story of modern pirates and treasure, they find themselves on the biggest adventure of their lives! If you are expecting a book like Deveraux's others, be prepared. It's mild compared to "Sweet Liar" and "Legends", but it's full of charm and adventure!
Rating: Summary: pure fantastic! Review: I love this book, I really think it could be made into a movie. the characters are sharp, funny, and sexy.It is obvious that author had been watching some movie magic classics and did her own rendering.I am in love with 'Ace' and 'Fiona', they made me laugh and long for their quirky seduction. what else can u say about perfection except for the fact I have re-read this book about 3 times. read it, you will love it.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Again Review: Years ago I read THE DUCHESS by Jude Deveraux and enjoyed it; subsequently I have read several of her other novels and have finally decided that it is THE DUCHESS that is the fluke! HIGH TIDE is another idiotic, shallow, contrived story written for maybe a fifth grader. You have the kick a** Fiona who spends the entire novel slapping Montgomery, screaming at him, or trying to run away. Then you have the handsome Ace who (with a limitless amount of money and resources) somehow falls in love with this witchy Fiona (totally unbelievable). If you want to read something with a strong heroine, a perfect hero and a great story, turn to anything by Gabaldon (start with OUTLANDER).
Rating: Summary: Not the best book, but not the worst either Review: Fiona was happy with her New York life. She had friends, a boyfriend and Kimberly. When her boss asks her to go to Florida to meet an older man on a fishing expedition so they can land a new account Fiona puts up a fight but is sent on her way kicking and screaming. She gets drunk with her friends that night and in the morning heads off to Florida with a bad hang over and things only get worse for her along the way. Ace, a bird watching loner, is guiding the fishing trip, but only because he was told money would possibly be invested in Ace's park. Then the murders start adding up and all fingers point to Fiona or ... Ace? Or Who... I enjoyed the characters, the plot was a good idea but I felt like I was missing something. Too many parts were left with holes... some of the added in characters like Eric, what was his point supposed to be in all the hubble, also another flaw I saw was how easily Ace and Fiona just trusted certain people out of the blue with no questions asked. The beginning of the book started off pretty good, towards the middle it slowed down to almost a halt then a little after the middle things got moving again and the ending was sorta rushed but good. All in all, the story was good although I finished the book feeling like I missed something. I'm glad I read this book, it was a nice read, but you can buy it in my rummage sale this summer because it's a one-time read.
