Rating: Summary: Not her best Review: Somehow this book did not catch my fancy. I can ignore some large plot holes, but this story had huge canyons in it. I loved the various stories of the Montgomerys and the Taggerts, but this one is not up to her usual interesting style.
Rating: Summary: AN OK BOOK! Review: I enjoyed reading this book, and would suggest it to others looking for an entertaining novel . . .If you want to read a book that goes straight to your heart, read Stolen Moments by Barbara Jeanne Fisher. . .It is a beautiful story of unrequited love. . .for certain the love story of the nineties. I intended to give the book a quick read, but I got so caught up in the story that I couldn't put the book down. From the very beginning, I was fully caught up in the heart-wrenching account of Julie Hunter's battle with lupus and her growing love for Don Lipton. This love, in the face of Julie's impending death, makes for a story that covers the range of human emotions. The touches of humor are great, too, they add some nice contrast and lighten things a bit when emotions are running high. I've never read a book more deserving of being published. It has rare depth. Julie's story will remind your readers that life and love are precious and not to be taken for granted. It has had an impact on me, and for that I'm grateful. Stolen Moments is written with so much sensitivity that it made me want to cry. It is a spellbinder. What terrific writing. Barbara does have an exceptional gift! This book was edited by Lupus specialist Dr. Matt Morrow too, and has the latest information on that disease. ..A perfect gift for someone who started college late in life, fell in love too late in life, is living with any illness, or trying to understand a loved one who is. . .A gift to be cherished forever
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: This book is definitely not up to Jude Deveraux's usual standard. The characters are contrived - almost unlikable - and the story is confusing. Deveraux attempts to write a mystery novel but leaves out many important details, causing the story line to fall apart. I suggest that the writer leave mystery tales to the adept mystery writers in the future and return to the fun and feisty romps that made her famous.
Rating: Summary: HIGH TIDE Review: I LOVE JUDE DEVERAUX AND THE MONTGOMERY/TAGGERT SERIES BUT FELT THAT THIS BOOK WAS NOT UP TO JUDE DEVERAUX'S NORMAL INTENSE STORYTELLING. THE CHARATERS WERE GOOD BUT THE STORY CAME TO AN ABRUPT END JUST AS WE WERE GETTING INTO THE STORY. IT NEEDED A FEW MORE CHAPTERS TO WRAP IT UP.
Rating: Summary: Not a keeper...... Review: Funny, frothy, predictable, light-hearted fare. No remiscences of classics like Knight In Shining Armor. Wait! That's wrong- the same kind of humour is in both books. Ace and Fiona are the stereotypical, bickering H & H but they are endearing. And their dialogue back and forth has lots of zip and crackle. Try High Tide - you'll like it today - but you won't remember it tomorrow.
Rating: Summary: Where were the Montgomerys? Review: HIGH TIDE is a major improvement in Jude Deveraux's writing of late. It is much, much better than AN ANGEL FOR EMILY and THE BLESSING. The writing is cleaner and while the story is not "true-to-life," it is at least credible. It moves well and the characters are interesting. The main problem is that this is a Taggert novel, not a Montgomery except in name only. When Ace Montgomery finds himself in trouble, he does not go to his Montgomery family but to his Taggert cousins. His brother is mentioned in an aside and never by name, but Michael and Frank Taggert are heavily involved in helping Ace and Fiona clear their names. If this book was supposed to be a return to the Montgomerys, why didn't we see any of them other than Ace? It would have been more interesting if Ace had gone to Reid Stanford and Dougless Montgomery Stanford (from A KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR) for help, rather than the Taggerts. I love the Taggerts but wanted to revisit old favorites from the KNIGHT. All in all, HIGH TIDE is worth the cover price, but it does not measure up to classics like A KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR and SWEET LIAR.
Rating: Summary: Not up to par! Review: I read this book in nearly one sitting, but when I finished, something was missing. Where did the Rose character fit in? It was never explained. Even if Susie had connections, weren't Ace & Fionna concerned that "someone" had found out where they were staying before they went to the retirement community? I would have been petrified. I was somewhat disappointed in this book. I felt it could have moved along a lot quicker.
Rating: Summary: I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN! Review: I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A NEW MONTGOMERY STORY FOR MONTHS! I WAS A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED THAT THERE WEREN'T MORE OF THE FAMILY INVOLVED WITH THE ACTION BUT THE STORY KEPT MY INTEREST. WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT A MONTGOMERY LIVED ANYWHERE ELSE BESIDES MAINE OR COLORADO. I KNOW IT TAKES TIME TO WRITE THESE BOOKS, BUT I HOPE THERE IS ANOTHER MONTGOMERY/TAGGART STORY COMING SOON, I CAN'T WAIT!
Rating: Summary: another great montgomery-taggert story. Review: ms.deveraux does it again! i absolutely love the montgomery-taggert stories. the minute i read the preface, i knew this was a must read...
Rating: Summary: What could she be thinking of while writing this book: Review: If she wanted to continue with the Montgomery saga, she should have used better characters! I felt it to be too weak. I would advise any one interested in reading this book, to either borrow from a friend or go to the library. Don't waste your money!
