Summary: High Tide
Review: High Tide was the first book that I've ever read by Jude Deveraux. I thought that the book was very well written and thoughtout. Ms. Deveraux keeps you guessing and anticipating all the way to the end. When Fiona woke up with a dead man on top of her, I thought that it had to be Ace. Only Ace was just as puzzled as Fiona was. Most of the book is spent in hide-out trying to find out who set them up. When my mom handed me the book and said,"Here, I thought you'd like this." I thought,"Oh, no. Not another sleazy sex novel." But it wasn't. The story really suprised me. Even though I've never read any books like High Tide before, it made me think about what I'm missing when I limit my collection. My favorite part of the book was on p. 318 when Ace finally said,"I love you," to Fiona. It should have happened sometime between the beginning and the middle, but once again Ms. Deveraux made me anticipate what was going to happen. All in all I loved the book and I've recommended it to many of my friends.

Summary: I laughed my way through it.
Review: It's hard to find a romantic novel with characters who can actually make a reader laugh. Well, this book was one of the few and reminded me why I liked to read romance novels and reminds me why I stopped... there just aren't enough books out there like this one. The story line might not be all it could be, but I fell in love with the characters and they're sense of humor. Now, I can only hope the next book I read is as good....

Summary: An Adventurous Love Story
Review: The High Tide by Jude Deveraux is an amazing and distinquised love story. I never really likled reading, but as I started reading this story it made me want to know more about what happened next. The novel is about a woman named Fiona who was sent to Florida by her boss to meet with a rich client. Fiona wasn't so thrilled about going on this trip because she had never left her home town of New York. But, little did she know what was in store for her. Fiona is accused of the murder of her client, her only ally is a man named Ace Mongomery, and they both fined themselves falling in love with each other while trying to solve the dangerous mystery behind the murder. Overall, this is a great book to read, and I recommend it.

Summary: Wasn't high on this one!
Review: I am an absolutely loyal JD reader, however the last few books has started to make my loyalty waver. This one was no exception. It definitely had the feeling that she was just making up the story as she went along and there was hardly any pre-planning involved. To be honest, I found at the end of the book I still wasn't really sure what the big cloak and dagger intrigue was actually all about. Unless you're in need of a JD fix (and if you've read A Knight in Shining Armour and Sweet Liar, I can't say that I blame you) give this one a miss. This one had a decidely amateurish feel to it. Will the real Jude Deveraux come out, come out wherever you are?

Summary: Disappointed in California!
Review: Having only read one other book by this author, I was curious. I had thought her to be someone I would enjoy. But after reading two books,(The Blessing and this one) I'm not sure I want to read any more! Is it possible some of her earlier books are better written and will keep me better entertained and enlightened?? I was disappointed in this book! I did enjoy the two main characters, Ace and Fiona, but thought their relationship rather predictable. At times I thought the story was getting interesting, only to take some weird twist and turn that I didn't think really related to the story! I also found the story to be confusing at times. There were too many extra characters that came in and out of the story and I found myself confused, wondering HOW these characters fit into the story! I found the whole story of the maps and the treasure simply confusing at times! I thought the mystery of WHO Kimberly was for the first 80 or so pages was stupid! I certainly hope that there are other Jude Deveraux books that are more entertaining than this one! I'm sorry I bought this book and I don't intend on recommending it other than to say...don't waste your time!

Summary: Deveraux Thrashes But Sinks in "High Tide"
Review: Get it together or turn in your pen, Jude Deveraux!

I was delighted when I heard that my favorite romance author had returned to the subject she writes best--the Montgomery men. What a disappointment "High Tide" is.

While Deveraux can still create sexual tension like no one else, this romance felt contrived, jerky, and unfeasible. Neither hero nor heroine is likeable. The character development is inconsistent and baffling. The dialogue is embarrassing. The transition from "intense mutual dislike" to "heartstopping lust, deep respect, and perfect trust" (Deveraux's signature move) just doesn't work here.

Still, the love affair is better than the mystery plot, which is /so/ poorly constructed that the reader is saying "Huh?" long after the killer's identity and motive are exposed. (The elements you'd need to construct the truth yourself are not revealed until the very end--a sign of a bad mystery--and in a flood of implausible exposition.) Deveraux introduces a bunch of characters that are obviously meant to colorful, but are really just underdeveloped distractions.

Suspension of disbelief is one thing, but even within a fantasy context, characters' behavior should make sense. The language in this one is weak and repetitive, too. Where was her editor?

Don't expect to be swept away by this tide.

Summary: Fans of Jude Deveraux - Don't Read!
Review: I have every one of Jude Deveraux's books that are out on bookstands so far... Except this one. Probably like many other Jude Deveraux fans, I want anxiously for a new book to come out and I was excited to read this one when it came to the local library. I wondered why a new Deveraux book was still on library shelves, but I didn't think much of it. I knew why when I read it... This book was horrible! I felt no connection betweent the main characters (Fiona & Ace), infact I felt disgust by them... Reading the other reviews made me realize I'm not the only one who thinks this book was not written by Jude. I'm going to add it to my collection--just to have it though--I doubt I'll ever waste the three hours again to read it. This book was trash, it should have been thrown away when being edited.

Summary: This can't be Jude Deveraux!
Review: Unfortunately, I didn't believe the reviews about this book and had to read it. I don't know what happened with this book, but either Jude Deveraux didn't write it or she's lost her touch. The dialogue was absolutely horrible. I felt like I was reading a book for 12 year olds. The interaction between Fiona and Ace did not come close to romantic and then all of a sudden, they realize they are in love. Did I miss something????? And Fiona was so violent. I like a strong woman, but there's a difference between a whiney, violent woman and one who stands up for herself. Fiona was definitely whiney and violent. And what was the deal with the stupid Kimberly parts. Was this supposed to be some kind of big mystery? I figured it out on first page who Kimberly was. She spent way too much talking about Kimberly. I'm just so disappointed with this book, I don't know if I want to even read another new book by her. They seem to be getting worse and worse. If Jude Deveraux is using a ghost writer, please stop! This many bad reviews can't be wrong!! Bring us back the original writing that made you famous.

Summary: Not up to Jude's usual standards!
Review: I have read nearly every book written by Jude Deveraux...some, like A Knight in Shining Armor and Highland Velvet, are among my very favorite books of all time. Although I have not loved everything she has written, I have always enjoyed reading a new release from Jude. Until High Tide. The story, at its most basic level, had potential but the execution of said story was abysmal. Ridiculous plot twists, trite and uninspired dialog and an insultingly mindless storyline...in short, don't waste your time!

Summary: A great who-done-it
Review: Another great story from Jude. I was so glad Mike from Sweet Liar was included in this one as well as some of the other characters, even Frank Taggert. I would have liked to find out more about him since he got married. Perhaps you could include him more in your next book. I couldn't guess who was framing Ace and Fiona for murder, which was great as it makes the book so much more enjoyable. I don't like books when I know who did it. Well done on another great story and I am looking forward to the next one in the Taggert/Montgomery series. Please be fast, Jude.
