Summary: Not Worth a Deveraux Fan's Time
Review: I have been in love with Jude Deveraux's writing since I was a teenager. Her historical novels are the best that I've ever read. I normally love her modern tales, too, but there was something odd about this one... almost as if she hadn't written it.The style of this latest book didn't seem to be hers. I felt an abrupt change at the end of Chapter 18, and from then on it was as if an amateur writer had taken over-- there were too many "baby" this and "baby" that phrases which were totally out of character for Ace Montgomery. The murder-mystery concept was a good one, and it was fairly well done and quite enjoyable, but I kept getting the sense that I wasn't reading Ms. Deveraux's normal style. It was very unsettling. The love plot within it was subtle and growing nicely, but it came to too quick of a climax and resolution, almost as if Deveraux decided, "Oops, I've written too many pages! Must end the story NOW!" In the end, I was left very disappointed. If you are a Deveraux fan looking for another great read, you're not going to find it here. I've given my copy to my mother to read to confirm my bad feelings about it, and then it's going to Goodwill. I refuse to add it to my collection of her other novels.

Summary: Don't Waste Your Time...
Review: Fiona Burkenhalter, a New York toy executive, sets out on a mandated fishing expedition in the Florida Everglades, along with a big client of her company. Fiona is the creator of the Kimberly doll, Barbie's competition. Once in Florida, she saves the life of Ace Montgomery, who is being attacked by a huge alligator in the airport. Well, this is what she thinks. The alligator is actually mechanical, expensive, and Ace's last ditch effort to save his park in the Everglades by bringing in more tourism. He's furious and she gets sent to jail. Once she gets to the park for the fishing expedition, Ace is the guide (of course), and their mutual animosity hides their growing attraction (of course, again). At this point I'm thinking... this is pretty good - has promise. Well, then Fiona wakes up with a dead man on top of her who has been stabbed with a knife, which makes her appear the prime murder suspect. Ace is her only ally. Their faces and the murder end up plastered on front pages of newspapers and now they're on the run together. And I'm thinking...okay, I kind of like the on the run from the law angle - it's got possibilities. However, the rest of the story is a convuluted mess. People trying to kill them, billionaire families, treasure maps, hiking through the jungle, posing as a couple in a condo community and more dead bodies. Now I'm thinking...HUH?????. This was my first Jude Deveraux novel, and yes, I have tortured myself by reading others. The writing is good but the story is ludicrous. And the kicker is, this is the best book of hers I've read. I gave it two stars based on her writing ability. Bottom line... don't waste your time. For a good contemporary romance try Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Jennifer Crusie or Rachel Gibson.

Summary: The Alligator scene was promising but...
Review: Who's Kimberly? Kimberly is...a pain in the arse!
Since about 40 pages are spent on her you'd think she was the main character. Considering that, she really does have more depth in her glassy eyes then Fiona has in her entire 6'0 frame as she flounces and pouts through page after page. Ace is no ace with me. I like my heroes somewhat smart and considering he was engaged to a dim witted blond who anyone could tell he wasn't really in love with (since hot potatoe style he ditched her for an equally whiny heroine, Fiona) makes me question his intelligence. Both of his girls'(Fiona and Lisa) also seem to dislike the swamp-a world Ace adores, which makes me wonder how much of his attraction to Fiona is just lust rather then love.
I suggest The Taming and The Conquest by Jude Deveraux instead. Or may I suggest Judith McNaught and Karen Marie Moning.

Summary: Great action and adventure
Review: Jude Deveraux's High Tide is a must-read for Devearux fans. It has some edgy suspense & action scenes, but we never lose sight of the characters or the sense of romance familiar to Devearux/Montgomery fans. Many romance writers have turned their romances into edgier suspense/mysteries. Jude tries to do this, but High Tide has her characteristic humor and sense of character readers have loved over the years. High Tide is primarily a romance with the action suspense used as the vehicle for their meeting and the plot. She has returned to the beloved Montgomery & Taggert families, but does not use them to big advantage, as in past books. Some Deveraux fans will not like this book because it is a bit of a departure from her past over -the-top humor & love. I admire an author who can continue to change and grow over the years. I enjoyed this book a lot. I did not give it top stars because I thought the story started to drag and pull apart a bit as they were nearing the end of their adventurea and wound up in the Florida retirement village. I did not see the point in that. This portion of the book did not match the rest in plotting or characterization. We meet a couple of characters who were not fully explained or thought out. All of this said, this is a worthwhile book for Devearux fans to read. It kept my attention for seveal hours.

Summary: A Very Enjoyable Read
Review: I read all of the reviews here and I was surprise hardly no one cared to much for it, I haven't read all of Jude Deveraux books, but the ones that did read I enjoyed. I did liked High Tide, Some parts it made me laugh. I love Fiona Burkenhalter character, the things she would say would just make me laugh. Oh and Ace is something else, he is our fantasy man that comes to our rescue and keeps us safe. Fiona and Ace are both on the run, they are accused of killing Roy Hudson, they go through an adventure that gets them close together, Ace as seen Fiona, in her good side as well as her bad side, I would not mind being on the run with Ace, I am glad that I did not let the other reviews turn me off to reading this book, a very enjoyable read. Summary: Disappointed Again
Review: Years ago I read THE DUCHESS by Jude Deveraux and enjoyed it; subsequently I have read several of her other novels and have finally decided that it is THE DUCHESS that is the fluke! HIGH TIDE is another idiotic, shallow, contrived story written for maybe a fifth grader. You have the kick a** Fiona who spends the entire novel slapping Montgomery, screaming at him, or trying to run away. Then you have the handsome Ace who (with a limitless amount of money and resources) somehow falls in love with this witchy Fiona (totally unbelievable). If you want to read something with a strong heroine, a perfect hero and a great story, turn to anything by Gabaldon (start with OUTLANDER).

Review: I liked this book, except for the fact that their are characters in there who have no real purpose, for examples, Eric and Rose. What point do they serve? It is almost like Jude got bored and decided to put more people in. This book is not her best.

Review: this book was interesting, only because it was crafted by jude deveraux's magnificent wit. fiona seemed a little full of herself. ace was your typical romantic hero. if you want a good jude deveraux read, pick up "THE DUCHESS" and you will NOT be disappointed.

Summary: Not the best book, but not the worst either
Review: Fiona was happy with her New York life. She had friends, a boyfriend and Kimberly.
When her boss asks her to go to Florida to meet an older man on a fishing expedition so they can land a new account Fiona puts up a fight but is sent on her way kicking and screaming. She gets drunk with her friends that night and in the morning heads off to Florida with a bad hang over and things only get worse for her along the way. Ace, a bird watching loner, is guiding the fishing trip, but only because he was told money would possibly be invested in Ace's park. Then the murders start adding up and all fingers point to Fiona or ... Ace? Or Who... I enjoyed the characters, the plot was a good idea but I felt like I was missing something.
Too many parts were left with holes... some of the added in characters like Eric, what was his point supposed to be in all the hubble, also another flaw I saw was how easily Ace and Fiona just trusted certain people out of the blue with no questions asked.
The beginning of the book started off pretty good, towards the middle it slowed down to almost a halt then a little after the middle things got moving again and the ending was sorta rushed but good. All in all, the story was good although I finished the book feeling like I missed something. I'm glad I read this book, it was a nice read, but you can buy it in my rummage sale this summer because it's a one-time read.

1) it made me laugh hysterically at some parts
2) i'm madly in love with the Montgomerys ;)
