Summary: What a page-turner!
Review: This book has changed my mind about suspense thrillers! When I first stumbled across this book, I was intrigued. A suspense thriller by an African-American woman is not something you run into everyday. As I began reading, the book drew me in deeper. The characters, especially Patricia Conley, are well-developed and their motivations are believable. But, Evelyn Coleman doesn't just stop at the surface. Most of the characters have depths she only hints at, until you begin to believe that noone in this book can be labeled or typecast.

I was spell-bound by the scientific possibilities, and intrigued by the spiritualality of the Dogons. I am eagerly awaiting a sequel. I'm not ready to end my relationship with these people! Please, Ms. Coleman, don't keep us waiting too long!

Summary: An excellent suspense novel.
Review: What A Woman Gotta Do by Evelyn Coleman is one of the best supsense novel that I've read in some years. Told with a down to earth narrative, exciting plot, and a geniune heroine, What A Woman Gotta Do puts on a ride that you mistake for a nice Sunday afternoon drive when it's really a roller coaster ride that Six Flaggs would love to get their hands one.

The novel starts with our heroine, Patricia, being stood up at City Hall waiting for her finacee, Kenneth, to arrive. He doesn't. Patricia leaves City Hall devastated. As she does, she looks into a restaurant and see Kenneth holding hands with another woman. So begins our roller coaster ride.

Coleman will then take you through the bible, genetic engineering, romance, friendship as seen through the eyes of Patricia. Patricia is not perfect. She's real. Coleman created a whole person. Even though Patricia is a fictional character, I swear I could pick her out in a crowd. Not giving away the plot, Coleman will have you reaching for your bible and the latest genetic research articles, for this is not hair-brain plot. It could happen. The best part about this is that Coleman breaks down the scientific information in such a manner that the average reader doesn't feel stupid.

What A Woman Gotta Do is a fascinating read. It also serves as an introduction of a new, wonderful African-American author. I wouldn't have missed this one for the world...and I hope you don't either.

Summary: I couldn't stop turning the pages!
Review: I just finished What A Woman's Gotta Do. WOW! I couldn't put it down. I must have read the last pages a mile a minute. I just had to know what was going on. Then I went back and re-read it to savor all the pieces falling in place and to take the details in more slowly.

The mystery keeps building and the added African elements keep you reading furiously. I could identify with Patricia Conley, hurt in love and life but strong enough to handle the big problems. Now I have a problem -- I want more Patricia Conley right now!

Although a fun read, Evelyn Coleman is right up to date with her discussion of eugenics since human cloning is right around the corner. What a Woman's Gotta Do gives added insight into what this could mean for black people without droning on about it.

The mix of contemporary Atlanta and Dogon legend brings a different slant to this mystery.

More soon Evelyn!

Summary: Superb!
Review: Her love prevailed for Kenneth Lawson, even though a part of him remained a mystery to her. On her wedding day she stumbles upon the dreaded scene ... her man intertwined with another woman and then he's found in an alley dead, or is he really dead? What would you do? Her love for him provides the energy she needed as she investigates the mystery of Kenneth Lawson, as a person and the mystery of what happened in the alley.

Just when you think you've figured out what was happening, another character arrives on the scene forming your imagination to walk with Patricia Conley in her electrifying investigation.

From reading about the Dogons, scientific research and the primordial seed, the book was a thought provoker for me and it was refreshing to read something different that incorporated mysteries, science-fiction, love and African history.

Superb job in writing "What A Woman's Gotta Do"! If Patricia Conley had to do what she had to do, and survived, then the world is mine and I can do what I gotta do as well. Much success, Evelyn! Waiting for the next novel!

Summary: Terrific book
Review:

I did not put down What a Woman's Gotta Do until 2 a.m. At that time I was finished. I simply could not put the book down! I had to know how it ended.

Patricia Conley is a true heroine. I have always wanted to beat the living daylights of out a man, and she did it for me. I felt like I was right there in the room with her. More power to her and to all of us women out there!

I am looking forward to Evelyn's next novel. I have the great pleasure I knowing her personally, and she is truly a remarkable woman. Even though the main characters in the book are African Americans, and I am not, it made no difference to me. I could identify with Patricia Conley and all of her suffering and humiliation due to her background and her man problems.

I hope that any white woman out there who hasn't thought about buying the book, because of the African American heroine, will change their minds and buy it. It is truly a terrific book!

Summary: Great read - one of those hard to put down books!
Review: I could not wait to start reading what is the first, and hopefully just the start, of a great new Southern mystery writer to be read and savored. Having read some preliminary glowing reviews on Ms. Coleman's first venture into adult mystery writing, I could hardly wait to start reading my copy of this great book. And the early reviews are not an overstatement. This was definitely one of those books that you did not want to put down - and just when you think you know how it is going to end you find out how wrong you are. Ms. Coleman does an outstanding job of blending African lore with modern day events and the storyline - and bless her for listing sources of more information on the literature she wets your appetite and mind to what to know more about. And the source of the book title is great - I have enjoyed quoting it to my girlfriends. Thank you, Ms. Coleman and I look forward to more great reads from you.

Summary: I thought the book was terrific
Review: This was my real first attempt with suspense . I truly enjoyed it. This book deals with a little of eveything science, medicine, love and murder. The author does a wonderful job in getting you involved in this story.

Summary: I loved the book!
Review: Contrary to the negative reviews I could not put this book down. I loved the suspense and how you had to wait until the last minute to find out the true villians in this story. I also loved Patricia Conley's strength. She was a very strong willed person who set an example for all women to aspire to. Lastly the lesson of culture and another view of a higher being and spirituality was truly refreshing. I applaud Ms. Coleman for delving into history and expanding our minds to encompass another way of view mankind. I look forward to her next book!

Summary: I did not like this book.
Review: I thought that from the title and the cover that this would be a great book, full of action, mystery, suspense, with just a little romance. It was full of all that but none of it fit together into an enjoyable book. I finished it to see if the plot could get any sillier, and it did. I really thought that the heroin's personality was a bit all over the place. She was just as insane as the plot. It did have a few good points, but you may not want to waste your time finding them.

Summary: How Did This Book Get Published?
Review: Eve Coleman had this Woman going in too many directions. So much until you start to think that everything is taking place in year 3500, on some unknown planet. Outrageous! Two stars for the sistah's vivid imagination.
