Rating: Summary: Patricia, Girl Was Doing It! Review: One of the best mysteries I've read in a long time. Evelyn created characters that will captivate your interest and will keep you intrigued. She certainly did a lot of research and hard work to write this book and her talent definitely shows. I'm waiting for Patricia Conley to make a come back, as well with her mate Jeff.
Rating: Summary: This is a thrilling, well-written, high-energy book! Review: As an African-American woman, I'm starving for books like this about smart black women. Coleman presents a variety of topics and issues in such an appealing way -- without lecturing. But this book should appeal to everyone because (and I don't know how she did it) it's original! As other reviewers noted, I also scold the publishers for making the book jacket look like yet another "Waiting to Exhale" novel. No gripe with Terry McMillian, but did the publishers read the book? African-Americans are not homogenous and aren't just focused on one issue. Read Coleman's book and you'll learn that. This book was great to read on the train. I had to slow down at the end because I didn't want to leave the main character. I also liked the action scenes (perhaps living vicariously?). I am WAITING for Coleman's next book.
Rating: Summary: An unpredictable, historical, hysterical page turner Review: From the first page until the last I couldn't put this book down. This story touched upon science, history, love, and a myriad of human emotions. We hit the ground running with a articulate, martial artist getting stood up at the altar and ended up with a major biological catastrophe being avoided because of this same woman. The conspiracy theory lives and thrives in this story. I am looking forward to Ms. Coleman's next book.
Rating: Summary: Suspenseful and mysterious!! Review: This book was very interesting. However, I grew tired of of some of the astronomical jargon that was being said. Patricia appeared to be a intelligent and strong woman. Nevertheless, I was upset when she insisted on finding Kenneth, instead of leaving well enough alone. The man was pronounced dead for christ sake!! Actually I thought that Jeff and her jewel appraisal friend were somehow the bad guys. Overall, the novel was good!!
Rating: Summary: Talk About Suspense!!! Review: This book takes you on a wild roller coaster ride!!! There were so many twists and turns that I was kept constantly on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend this book. I can't wait to read Ms. Coleman's next book.
Rating: Summary: Reads like a vintage Robert Ludlum novel. Review: I haven't read a thriller like "What's A Woman's Gotta Do" since I first picked up Robert Ludlum's "The Bourne Identity". What makes it so refreshing is it's written from the point of view of a middle class African American (and I was beginning to thing I was the only one) perspective with observations that only an African American could make. White readers should find this perspective both enlightening and entertaining also. The suspense is second to none and the author has done her homework sweating the details to make the story and action believable (Clancey has got nothing on her). My only complaint is the title and the cover art would lead you to believe it's the sequel to "Waiting To Exhale". The cover art shows an attractive, brown skin model type wearing a karate gi (uniform) with her arms folded. Unfortunately the karate uniform looks more like a low cut dress and the expression on the woman's face appear as though she's about to ! scold you for not doing your homework. Simon and Schuster have a best seller here, but they may want to take the time and expense to repackage it with a more appropriate title and cover.
Rating: Summary: Patricia Conley is a new type heroine for the 90s. Review: First and foremost I want this book to entertain even though it has physics, genetics, history and philosophy. Thriller's have always been my reading preference because they are the domain of the man who can do the improbable. I hope my friends who read this book realize that Patricia Conley does not fit any mole we've seen before. Even though larger-than-life heroes abound in the thriller genre, they are not usually female and certainly not African American. And yes, Patricia Conley can kick butt.By the way, I love Tananarive Due's work. But for the record, so as not to confuse any readers, Ms. Due writes in the horror/supernatural genre, not suspense thrillers. Both of us are breaking new ground for African American female protagonist in these areas and we're very proud to be among the first to do it. I do appreciate your posting comments, no matter what they a! re and I'd love to hear from you so please feel free to email me anytime. Thank you for your support of my work. If you liked Patricia Conley, she'll be back again to take care of business.
Rating: Summary: What a Woman's Gotta Do is definitely a novel of suspense. Review: I really enjoyed reading about a smart, strong, loced, African-American heroine who was able to stop a horrible conspiracy from taking place. From beginning to end What A Woman's Gotta Do kept me so involved in the story that I was reluctant to close the book to go to work. I am very much a fan of mystery novels and this is definitely one of the best. I hope to meet Patricia Conley, the heroine, again in a future novel.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book! Review: Reading this book was like riding a roller-coaster! It was a thrilling, suspenseful, plot twisting, nail-biting experience!
