Rating: Summary: Close Combat: A wonderfull book for those wanting action Review: Close Combat is a marvelously writen book, Griffin does a wonderful job keeping uyp the high standards of his previous books. Based on Guadalacannal, as in other books, this book depicts the conditions of living perfectly. The language may be offending to younger readers but is key in character developement. This book is a great choice for anyone who likes millitary fiction or has read any of the other books in the Corps Series.
Rating: Summary: Griffin as a historical novelist Review: Griffin has created an action filled and entertaining story against some of the darkest days in the history of this country. His main characters are products of the novel and he strives to keep this obvious. However, the surrounding details of his research and their presentation is most unique in that his facts are very often dead bang on target and demonstrate an understanding of the times and the interaction of the personalities of senior officers in the naval service. This book is strongly recommended to those who want to get a feeling for these most trying times.
Rating: Summary: Good, entertaining and easy reading Review: Have read all of Griffens books. Thoroughly enjoyable reading.

Rating: Summary: SECOND ONLY TO ALLISTAIR MCLEAN IN KEEPING YOUR INTEREST Review: I HAVE READ ALL OF GRIFFENS BOOKS AND ENJOYED THEM COMPLETELY I WOULD RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE.HOWEVER I THINK THAT HIS SERIES "THE CORPS" GETS TOO FAR AWAY FROM THE MAIN CHARACTER FROM THE FIRST VOLUMN. LT McCOY IS NOT MUCH IN EVIDENCE AFTER VOL II. STILL THEY ARE ALL GREAT READING.
Rating: Summary: Griffin as a historical novelist Review: I started reading W.E.B. Griffen's novels probably fifteen years ago and I have yet to be disappointed. In addition, I recommend his works to all my friends. A friend of mine that served on the U. S. S. Nimitz loaned the ones I sent him to all his buddies, who are now avid Griffen fans. I am really looking forward to the December 1998 release. Keep up the great work, Mr. Griffen!

Rating: Summary: History with believable fictional charecters. Review: Just completed reading Battleground. Good story about Gaudalcanal with believable characters. I can't wait start the following books to find out what happens to some of my favorite fictional people and get a feeling for the Pacific War with Japan.
Rating: Summary: Need to finish series of the Marines Review: the only problem i have with it is the Air Traffic Control portions, as an ATC (Military) controller, just doesn't work, but the rest is so interesting can't put down a book once i get it. I have read and re-read almost all of books except the police series. The Brotherhood of War, put me back in some places, Good/Bad. So I ask please finish the Marine part, just finished re=reading Blood & Honor?
Rating: Summary: Really great mix of historical fact and fiction Review: This book is a great mix of fact and fiction. I am a Marine and have been for ten years the mix of historical facts and figures is great. I especially like the way Griffin uses fictional characters to introduce you to actual historical figures. This is the third of his series I have read, and every book is like meeting an old friend and some new ones too. I hate to see a series end because he really makes it seem as if you know the characters.
