Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Not a Sunny Read Review: 'Gold Coast' is a strange novel. It's premise is great. A mobster exacts revenge on his wife by gets his buddies to prevent her from having 'sexual relationships' after he dies. Upon his death several shady characters appear to uphold his wishes. The wife is suitably bothered ... and that's it. Nothing really develops. The characters are uninteresting, seemingly rehashed buffoons from other Leonard novels. This was one tiresome read.As much I love Elmore Leonard's style and many of his novels I thought 'Gold Coast' was a poor excuse of a novel. A waste of time and money.

Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Not a Sunny Read Review: A Review by Amanda When Karen DeCilia was widowed for the second time her husband wanted her to be with no one else. So he put a clause in his trust saying she couldn't sleep with any other man. If she did break this factor of the trust she would never receive another dime of his money, the cars, or the estate. In her way is a man named Rowland he wants to ruin it all. She needs Maguire's help, an ex-con, to find a way around Rowland. I really didn't care for this book very much. I didn't like how the pace of the book was slow and boring. There weren't many, if at all, any real suspenseful parts. The characters never really evolved into anything. Such as Karen she was just a rich girl trying to get out of her late husbands tight hold on her. But that was about it. There was a lot of mention of this girl named Vivian, but it truly never explained who she was or what significance she was to the story. It was a very difficult story to follow and not a fun read at all. The story never evolved into something interesting. It was just a boring book to read. I recommend you avoid this book. It wasn't any fun to read and had no climax that was interesting. Someone who might enjoy this book is a person who can follow a story really well or just wants to read a book by this author.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: "I like that in a man..." Review: Elmore Leonard's "Gold Coast" is a classic book about a femme fatale. "You're not too bright. I like that in a man," said one actress in a late night film noir classic film, and Leonard's major female (Karen DiCilia) in "Gold Coast" is one smart cookie, using men for her own monetary advantage. Not that she doesn't like men's company. She just likes controlling men much more. Leonard's novel is fast-moving, witty and downright scary in places, especially when Roland is part of the scene. A huge, pseudo-cowboy-hit-man, Roland is the stuff of nightmares, a killer with little thought for his victims. He almost makes me want to own a gun. Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Brisk read, blackly humorous, good fun! Review: I read this book in 2 afternoons. Although it's short, the characters are fully realized and well-rounded. I really liked the Roland Crow character; such a jolly fellow going around shooting people and throwing them off balconies! I'm getting to like Elmore Leonard very much. If you like this stuff, I also recommend Joe R. Lansdale's series about Hap Collins and Leonard Pine, as well as anything by Christopher Moore.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: it was pretty good Review: i will have to admit that this was a really short book. if it was at least 100 pages longer it would be a lot better. but im still amazed on how good it was for such a short book.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Elmore Leonard's doesn't seem up to par in this one Review: This is a good book, alot of people will like this one a sort of quirky, crimefilled romance... but when compared to Leonard's other books it seems bad. Something just didn't click (for me) with the characters in this novel.
