Summary: great thriller; not predictable
Review: Have now read both Nathan's Run and the At All Costs and both are very good, entertaining reads. Suspenseful, interesting characters. Basic "bad dream" scenario involving otherwise innocent people.

My only cautionary note would be for those who get turned off by really evil, violent bad guys. Gilstrap has such characters in both his first two books, real psycho sadistic-types who are totally merciless and enjoy performing acts of violence and torture.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Very entertaining and compelling book
Review: Having read 'Even Steven' I hoped I was in for a good read. However although an avid reader of fiction I was driven by this book, at times I felt my eyes could not move fast enough. Although the general plot was fairly predictable, the story is told in such a compelling way it didn't matter. I just wanted to know what happened next. For two days I was looking for every opportunity to read.

Summary: Not for the faint of heart!!!
Review: Hold on to your seats! This is a non-stop roller coaster ride. Gilstrap does it again. I was pumping so much adrenaline by the time I finished this book all I could do was walk around the house for a half hour saying "Oh my God!". If John Gilstrap keeps this pace of writing, he should start having warnings added to the sleve of his books that state something like; 'If you have a heart condition, consult your doctor before reading the last chapters of this book'. Another great read, John. Looking forward to the next one.

Summary: WOW
Review: I am a thriller fanatic and was blown away by Gilstrap. His second novel even blows nathan's Run out of the water. If you want something that will keep you on the edge of your seat, there is nothing better.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: what a waste of time.
Review: I am ashamed that I invested the cover price for this wordy work of pulp trash. I was even worse than Nathan's run.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Moderately entertaining but nothing more
Review: I ordered this book because some reviewers compared Gilstrap to DeMille, whom I love. Unfortunately, there is absolutely no comparison between the two and while reading I couldn't help but feel cheated. Some parts of this book, (i.e., when the Donovans are on the lam with their son) were mildly suspenseful, but there are no real surprises here. Not a complete waste of time, but if you want real intrigue, suspense and excellent character development, your time would be more well spent reading DeMille's "Cathedral" or "The Lion's Game".

Summary: John Gilstrap has exceeded even my expectations
Review: I read the Kirkus review of this book and wonder if they really enjoy any books. This book was well written, maybe the plot was similar to Nathan's Run but most authors who write suspense books tend to stick to similar ideas but that does not make them bad. I thoroughly enjoyed this entire book and even though some of it was a stretch (miss the bad guys by a hair) well, thats what entertainment is all about. I caught myself holding my breath waiting for the white caddie to appear. Will read anything this author puts out unless he really screws up downstream and becomes a word factory like some others. Would rather wait for a really good book than get more that are just cranked out.

Summary: .
Review: I read this book after reading the numerous good reviews this book received. But, I believe some of the negative reviews more accurately represent the numerous problems this book has. The author does an excellent job making this book a quick, mindless read, but the author sacrifices realism to keep the plot moving at a frenetic pace. There are several points in the book where I just scratched my head and thought that there is no way the character would act that way. In fact, the reason the good guys are on the run is far-fetched and laughable and could have easily been prevented by the good guys talking to the police right after the incident happened instead of finding excuse after implausible excuse to do the wrong thing. I am now in the middle of a far superior novel called "The Trial" by Clifford Irving, which is a true example of fine, fast paced writing.

Summary: Best thriller I've read in a long time
Review: I sort of bought this by accident. I was looking for John Grisham's 'A time to Kill', the one I hadn't read. 'At all costs' was sitting next to it and, as the type face of the author was the same, I first mistook it for a 'Grisham'. After reading the back I decided to buy it as well and it sat in the bookcase while I started on 'A Time to Kill'.

I picked up 'At all costs late on a Tuesday night, was that a BIG mistake! I just could not put the book down. The story starts slowly enough, by quirk of fate an ordinary family guy get's caught up in a drug's bust and hauled off to sit in jail for a couple of hours, then Wham! you are launched into an incredible story of intrigue and suspense that turns so many blind corners you can never guess what's coming next. Thrilling to the last page. Already recommended to my bookworm friends and I am now looking for a copy of 'Nathans Run'.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: enjoyable to read
Review: I thought this was really good, because it kept you guessing what happen to them, trying to figure out why they had to hide. I read his other book Nathan Run and that was good.
