Summary: Ford's Latest Delivers Depth, Entertainment, and Surprises
Review: This novel solidifies Ford's reputation as a master fantasist. From chapter to chapter, the author surprises and delights the reader with stories within stories, humor, suspense, and much more. I can't recommend the novel highly enough.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Captivating!
Review: This novel sparked my imagination from its first pages. As the painter, Mr Piambo, laboured to capture the likeness of his invisible patron, Mrs Charbuque, I found myself urgently making my own mental portraits of her, as if to beat Piambo to the goal. Ford writes cleverly without being pretentious, and maintains real suspense throughout the book. I couldn't put it down - and will never be able to smell nutmeg without fond memories.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent
Review: With great style and atmosphere, Ford takes you back to turn-of-century New York for a tale of a painter who must make a portrait of an unseen patron. This is no mere historical, but a story where reality begins to dissolve around the protagonist. For all its strangeness, this a novel of character about the trials of an artist. Deep, moving, entertaining this book is absolutely hypnotic.
